OBE - Assignment - ED Spring 23 - 24 - V3.0

The document describes a laboratory experiment to design a circuit to turn on an LED when both inputs are high. It provides instructions to create a circuit using diodes, resistors, and capacitors to convert a 100+EFG mV AC supply voltage to the required 3V DC. The student must illustrate the AC to DC conversion circuit with input-output waveforms and the LED circuit meeting the given constraints.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Consider your ID = AB-CDEFG-H. Choose the appropriate digits when solving the problems.

Problem statement:

In a laboratory experiment, you are asked to design a circuit that can turn “ON” an LED (that is capable of
handling 3V) only when both the inputs of your designed circuit (showed in Fig. 1) are “High.” While
designing it, you realize that you don't have any DC voltage source at your disposal that matches the
criteria, and you are only equipped with diodes, resistors and capacitors. So, you decide to create your own
network that can take the AC supply and convert it to a suitable DC voltage to be used for your circuit. The
rms voltage of the supply is “[100 V + EFG mV]” AC and the value of your DC voltage acquired from AC-to-
DC conversion should be half of the peak value of the supply voltage.

Fig. 1: Block diagram for necessary circuit for turning ON the LED.

Based on this criterion, prepare the following:

i. With the input-output waveshapes, illustrate the circuit diagram to get the required DC voltage for the
input of your designed circuit. [10]
ii. Illustrate the diagram of your designed circuit to turn on the LED with given constraints. [10]

Instructions: -
- All calculations related to the design must be shown.
- Input-output waveshapes should be shown for each of the blocks mentioned above.
- A proper explanation for choosing a particular component is required.

Note: Copied/identical submissions will be graded as 0 for all

parties concerned.
