CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Rationale of the Study
An attendance monitoring system using QR code is a system that utilize QR
(Quick response) codes to track and record attendance in Saravia National High
School. Each individual is assigned a unique QR code that can scan using scanner. The
system captures attendance data instantly and records it in a database.
In saravia national high school, the process of tracking of attendance among
students is manual, so it is difficult because there are various errors when it goes
wrong. The attendance monitoring system using the QR code will help Saravia National
High School to make it easier to monitor the students.
One of the main problems is traditional method of manual attendance tracking
because its inefficiency and potential for errors. Traditional methods, such as sign-in
sheets, require manual data entry and can be time-consuming. Manual entry leaves
room for human error, leading to inaccurate attendance records.
Implementing an attendance monitoring system using QR codes solves the
problem of manual attendance tracking. QR codes provide a quick and efficient way to
capture attendance data. Individuals can simply scan their unique QR code using a

ID’s upon entering and leaving the gate during class hours which allows the system to
record their time in and out. By using the proposed system, the admin can monitor the
attendance records by daily to monthly record for each staff and issue a notification if
staff’s attendance is lower than working hours’ time.
The teacher can update or store information on the system such as students’
present days. The system can store the information of the student which are present in
their class hours. The system restricts outsiders or the students who are not include in
the class hour. The IDs can be updated. No need to replace it yearly unless lost, stolen,
or damaged. We use mobile devices to help with the attendance recorded process, use
open source software to minimize development and maintenance costs, Attendance
reports should provide end users with the greatest flexibility for manipulating the
collected attendance data, there will be no paper to check student’s attendance, that will
help protect against loss of data, Quicker and more accurate check and the teachers
know who is attended or not in an easy way.
The project is solely for educational institutions to automate recording student’s
attendance. School faculties, students, and parents will participate as respondents to
the study. The system cannot be used to track students within the campus based on
their class schedule. The system cannot track lost identification cards but can be used
to replace them.

writing the system automatically records the information of the student. This section
showed the distribution of the benefits to the people involved in the system.
Administration of Saravia National High School - It is recommended that
administrators must work hand in hand with the implementers involved
disseminate the innovative platform. This innovation has been proven effective
and if a proper system could be generated with the help of the administrators, it
will change the whole process of checking student's attendance in school.
Teachers/Instructors - This innovation has helped so many teachers all around
the Philippines and has given the idea on what it can do to check student’s
attendance. Teachers should understand and accept that in this fast-paced world
we are in, technology plays a big role in molding and engaging students to learn
better and effectively and should see this innovation as a chance to help them by
applying what has been started. Teachers are also being encouraged to help
each other and make some improvement for the benefit of each one.
Students - This project study will help the students to realize and appreciate the
efforts their teachers are doing to ease the burden of paper works every day.
Students should always bring their ID’s with them where they come to school or
attend classes to scan QR code. If the QR codes are still not attached in their
identification card, make some xerox to print one where they can attach it on their
ID's.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
Modernizing the way of monitoring student attendance by means of a QR code
system may be apparent already in other countries, or even big universities within the
country. However, creating a QR code attendance monitoring system for the school is
yet to be done in this country. Creating and adapting this system would help this
institution to keep up with the demands of 21st century learners, but would it be of any
significant difference from the current attendance checking methods that the college
school is implementing today. In this regard, this research focuses on determining the
level of efficiency of the utilization of QR codes in monitoring student attendance in the
College students in terms of reliability and time consumption. Related literature and
studies are gathered in this chapter to serve as evidence and to uphold the credibility of
this paper.

effectiveness and the efficiency of the use of biometric systems categorized based on
quality systems indicators such as relevancy, capacity, timeliness, accessibility,
flexibility, accuracy, reliability, security, economy, and simplicity can increase
productivity and efficiency as well as reduce job turnaround time in checking the
accuracy of the data with the card owner.
According to (Wei. X et al..2021). There are many examples of attendance
systems in the market that use smartphones such as QR code attendance systems.
This feature let us take a record of employee attendance with just a tap or QR code to
mobile phone applications scanner QR code attendance system is simple and
convenient to use, no external devices like biometrics scanners are required.
According to Sunil Jadhav, Akash Gagare, Pooja Gunjal, and prof. VidyaJagtap
(2022), the common way to get attendance is manual. Usually, the student has to sign
the attendance list in the class/lab during the examination. In this approach students
cannot cheat by signing for another students who is not present for the examination, so
the researcher suggested semi- automatic system to dominate all these problems, the
design method of a portable student attendance system is based on QR code using a
scanner so we are trying to solve the attendance control problem using QR code
system in this paper.

Attendance Monitoring System using QR Code Singh, 2016 analyzed QR code
from the perspective of their significance and uses. It was recommended to increase
awareness about the usefulness of the QR codes, to make public aware and be familiar
with the QR code. According to (Asare and Asare, 2015) For a QR code campaign to be
successful, the study suggests a company needs to have clear objectives, know who
they are targeting, provide valuable contents, place code at appropriate locations for

ease of scanning, decide on the right time for the campaign and finally execute it in a
creative way that anyone could efficiently adapt the system. It's been proven that the
use of this two-dimensional QR code is one of the best to use compared to barcode and
RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification). It can also be used in different teaching
strategies depending on the like of the teachers like games, reading, science, in math
and many more. In the study carried out by Durak et al. (2016) though it is easier to use
QR Codes, it is not possible to use them without technological necessities, so, QR
Codes would increase in line with the increase in the related technologies like
smartphones and tablets. The propagation of the smartphones and tablet PCs could
soon be the first choice when surfing and scanning quick response codes with the
support of internet access.
The study of Rizal et al. (2016) concludes that Smart Attendance System
Applying QR Code enables to speed up the process of taking attendance and would
save us valuable teaching time. He further stressed that this initiative helps students
avoid consequences that may result from poor attendances that should be stipulated in
the policy and academic regulations of the school. There are many other ways you can
use QR codes in school are becoming a popular tool in modern education. (Lamey,
2018 and Santisteban, 2017). Teachers of the 21st century are generally enthusiastic to
embrace the used of modern technologies, considering a sound fiscal allocation and
management. Teachers are more likely wanted simplicity and efficiency with combine

speed, ease, and novelty with the capacity to hold a large amount of data that can
actually do a lot to enrich such classroom management (Lamey, 2018).
It is in this context, the researcher wanted to conduct the study to enabling
awareness of the features of the attendance monitoring system using the QR code. It
also intended to determine the level of acceptability of QR code attendance monitoring
system as perceived by particular teachers-user and the students of General Emilio
Aguinaldo National High School as participants of the study. Thus, this study is geared
towards evidence-based practice using this type of computer system that will serve as a
preference towards continuous improvement and work on the recommendation on how
this type of system can be adapted in the school context.
