Brief History:
Lucio Diestro San Pedro, Sr. was a Filipino composer and
teacher who was proclaimed a National Artist of the Philippines
for Music in 1991. Lucio San Pedro is a master composer,
conductor, and teacher whose music evokes the folk elements of
the Filipino heritage. Cousin to “Botong” Francisco, San Pedro
produced a wide-ranging body of works, including band music,
violin and orchestra concertos, choral works, cantatas, chamber
music, music for violin and piano, and songs for solo voice. He
was the conductor of the much-acclaimed Peng Kong Grand
Mason Concert Band, the San Pedro Band of Angono, his
father’s former band, and the Banda Angono Numero Uno. His
civic commitment and work with town bands have significantly
contributed to developing a civic culture among Filipino
communities and opened a creative outlet for young Filipinos.
After studying with several prominent musicians in the
Philippines, he took advanced composition training with
Bernard Wagenaar of the Netherlands. He also studied harmony
and orchestration under Vittorio Giannini and took classes at
Juilliard in 1947.

Achievements:
Given the title professor emeritus by the University of the
Philippines College of Music in 1979.
Received the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan from the City of
Manila in 1984
Received the Asean Award for Music and a Papal award in 1990
Named National Artist in 1991
