v2.1.0.j or newer

Boot-load instruction

This document contains important information, if


you plan to upgrade an existing PSD02 device to the
latest firmware version.

For who is this guide?

This guide is for upgrading an existing PSD02 device to the latest PSD02 Firmware
v2.1.0.j or newer.

Which devices are affected?

All PSD02 devices, with a installed firmware version v2.1.0.i or earlier (also beta
software).
Devices who have already installed firmware version v2.1.0.j or newer are not
affected.
PSD02 devices delivered after August 2015 have already installed the newest
firmware.

Why it’s so important?

The internal memory management of the used controller has been changed in the
newest firmware version, due to the use of new flash memory chips.
That’s why a special upgrade procedure must be carried out.

What did I need to upgrade the firmware?

a PSD02 device running firmware 2.1.0.i or earlier


latest PSD-Control Software minimum is 2.19
latest PSD02 device firmware v2.1.0.j or newer
a paperclip or something similar, with a diameter of ~ 1mm

Something to know?

During the upgrade procedure the PSD02 is disabled for switching operation. The
complete history will be deleted during this process which can’t be restored.

Step-By-Step Instructions

1. Install the latest PSD-Control Software if not already done – 2.19 or newer is
requiered. Click Help About , to see which version is installed.
2. Set a project folder (Settings General Project Path), where you can store all
data for backup
3. Select diagnosis Backup/Restore
4. Check „all“ in the bottom left corner and verify that in the bottom the path is your
selected project-path + “\bak”

5. Click „backup“ to save all data from the PSD device – this takes a while
6. If the backup is done click „exit“
7. Open the file explorer and go to the project path
8. Verify that all data are saved (see picture below). All files with extension BIN and
DAT are necessary for restore:

9. Change the user level to the “commissioning” authority in the PSD-Control
Software (Settings User level)
10. Click Settings uC-Flashtools

11. Click „load & flash hex file“


12. Select the PSD02 Firmware file PSD210J.H86
(located in the FIRMWARE-Folder of your PSD-Control Installation)
13. A message appears: „Please enable boot modus“. Don’t click “OK” read first the
following steps!

14. Locate on the front panel of the PSD, left hand sided of the SIEMENS-Logo, the
small hole, for enabling the boot modus.
15. Take a paperclip and press and hold gently (!) the boot-load-button inside this
hole during a reset.

16. Press the „H“-Button (right hand side) at the front panel gently.
Or, restart the PSD device by switching power off an on.
17. The device makes a reboot.
18. Wait a few seconds.
a. If the device was powerd off - only the POWER LEDs is on The device is
in boot-load modus now.
b. If pressed the “H”-Button check that the LED left hand sided of the “H”-
Button is not flashing The device is in boot-load modus now.

19. Release the boot-load-button now


20. Click „Ok“ to start the upload in the PSD-Control software
21. A windows with „Connecting“ and then „Downloading“ appears
22. If you got an error here (in most cases the device is not in the boot-load mode)
please repeat from step 13 on

23. If the download is complete a new message appears

24. Click „ok“
25. Click „exit“
26. Now press and hold the „S“-button (located on the right side on the front plane)
27. Also press „H“-button - to make a restart of the PSD-Device. It’s also possible to
power-off the PSD device for a short moment.
28. If all LED-test has been carried out, release the „S“-button
29. Select diagnosis Backup/Restore
30. Select „restore“
31. Select the file XXXX_calibration.bin (see Step 8)
32. A message box appears, click „yes“ to restore the file. Warning: Don’t restore a file,
which is not from the device! PSD-Control gives a warning if the hardware-ID does
not match.

33. Select „restore“


34. Select the file XXXX_ucConfig.bin
35. A message box appears (see Step 32), once again click „yes“ if everything is ok
36. Close Backup/Restore
37. Click File Open
38. Select XXXX_Parameter.dat
39. The parameters will be load and show
40. Click File Send to transfer the parameters to the device

The PSD device should now run with the new firmware version, with the restored
calibration settings and configurations parameter.
