Software Update Procedure
Using MSP-JTAG-TINY V2.0
Supported Models:
AB2, AC2, ADC, AHW, BCB, CYT, EAS, EFA, EFD, EFH, FC2, FHC, HPI,
IVF, JA2, LA2, LB2, LHC, LVC, LP2, PCR, RHL, SC2, SPD, SVC, SVE, VA2,
VBD, VDA, AHC, AVC, ACB, CCL, CLM.
WARNING: SOFTWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE WILL CAUSE CALIBRATION DATA
TO BE ERASED FROM YOUR SYSTEM. ENSURE THAT THE SYSTEM IS
RECALIBRATED AFTERWARD
BEFORE START
In order to carry out the procedure, you need the following items:
1. A personal computer (PC) with Windows® 98 or XP operating system, windows 7, 8, 10, and
USB port
2. MSP-JTAG-TINY V2.0 Connector by Olimex (www.olimex.com)
3. Sentinel© control software (file type : *.txt)
Item 1 is not provided. Item 2 and a CD-ROM would be provided by ESCO Technical Support as a
Software Update Kit. Sentinel© control software would be available when there is a known product
fault or a product modification. The appropriate software for the product you have would be
provided by ESCO Technical Support. If you encounter any problem, please contact ESCO
Technical Support at support@escoglobal.com
LOCATE THE MAIN BOARD IN ELECTRICAL PANEL
1. Cut off the power supply to your product.
2. Locate the electrical panel of your product.
3. Locate the Main Board as indicated below. If necessary (e.g. when the USB cable is too short),
remove the Main Board from the electrical panel by disconnecting all the wires. Refer to the
Electrical Circuit Diagram for more information on wiring.
Warning: Whenever possible, please re-flash new software without removing the Main Board
from the electrical panel in order to prevent any wiring mistake.

Note: Some units have a Watchdog Board. Make sure that you identify the Main Board correctly.
A Main Board has cable connections to Relay Board, Keypad, LCD, and Sensors. Watchdog
Board may include only in C-Series Main Board. The picture below shows the electrical panel
layout in an FC2-_A_ unit.

INSTALL THE SOFTWARE
4. You need a PC with Windows® to program your board.
5. For windows 7, 8, 10 you will be required to lower the windows security in order to be able
to install the driver without signature recognition.
Here is the steps for windows 7 and Vista
1. Close all programs and reboot your computer.
2. Press the "F8" key as your computer is booting up, before the appearance of the
Windows logo.
3. When the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" appears on your screen, use your
keyboard arrow keys to highlight the “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” option
and then press "ENTER".
Here is the steps for Windows 10,windows 8 & 8.1 O.
1. Right click at the Windows Start button and select Shut Down or sign out.
2. Press and HOLD down the SHIFT key and then click Restart.
3. When Windows restarts, press “Troubleshoot”
4. In the “Troubleshoot options” screen, choose “Advanced options”.
5. In the “Advanced Options” window, choose “Startup Settings”.
6. In “Startup Settings” screen, click “Restart”.
After restart, select the "Disable driver signature enforcement" option and press Enter. *
* Note: If you see the below screen (Startup Settings), press the “F7” (or the “7”) key on
your keyboard to select the“Disable driver signature enforcement” option.
7. Then, proceed to install your unsigned driver. During the installation procedure, Windows
will inform you that can‟t verify the publisher of this driver software. At this point, ignore
the warning message and choose “Install this driver software anyway” to complete the
installation.
8. Normally installation should be done without errors now. Keep in mind that after the restart,
the driver signature enforcement will be enabled again to avoid security risk
6. You should receive a copy of 'MSP_PROG_GUI_1.3.0.3_CLI_2.0.1.2_DLL_1.0.4.1.ZIP' on
a CD-ROM. Create a new folder on your local drive (for example C:\ESCO) and copy the file
into this new folder. And then open the ZIP file then double click 'MSPProg_Setup.exe' to install
the application on your PC. Follow the software installation instructions step by step. Please
note that you will need an account with administrator rights; and during software installation,
please do not connect the USB Connector yet.
Select all components to install and click 'Next' .
If you want to install in a different directory click 'Browse', then click 'Next'
While installation it will ask to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, click 'Yes'.
After installation success, it will show messages like this and just click 'Close'. The software can't
be used if the driver for the hardware hasn't be installed.
INSTALL THE DRIVER
6. Connect the MSP-JTAG-TINY V2.0 connector to the JTAG CON port of the Main Board using
the supplied ribbon cable. Line 1 of ribbon cable (normally in red color and indicated by a small
triangle sign on the connector) must be connected to the PIN1 of JTAG CON.

Note: I series Display Board and I series main board will require the power to the board to be turned on.
7. Connect the MSP-JTAG-TINY V.2 to PC USB Port using the supplied USB cable. You can
connect to either a desktop or a laptop PC.
8. Click on the start menu and right click on „Computer‟ and choose properties.
9. Click on „Device Manager‟
10. Click on „Other devices‟ .
11. Right click on „MSP430 JTAGTiny ver 2.0. and choose „Update Driver Software‟
12. A new window will appear then click „Browse my computer for driver software‟
13. Click „Browse‟ and locate the „Drivers‟ folder under Olimex\MSP430 Programmers folder,
usually in C: directory. Then click „OK‟
14. Then click „Next‟
15. Windows then will try to install the driver. If the windows found out that the driver‟s digital
signature is not recognized, then just choose ‟Install this driver software anyway‟.
FLASH THE SOFTWARE
14. You would receive a file in TXT format containing the updated code of your Sentinel
Gold/Silver/XL/Delta from ESCO technical support staff.
15. Ensure that you have connected the Main Board to your PC as described in the steps above. In
order to start programming your board, run Olimex application by double-clicking the Olimex
icon on your desktop.
16. You will see the application window as shown in the following picture. Make sure that the
settings are :
a. in the 'Device' list, select device according to type of Microcontroller will be used. For
example select device to MSP430F149 for C-Series or MSP430F135 for T-Series. While for I
series main board is MSP430F169 and I series display board is MSP430F249.
b. in the 'Port' box, the appropriate port is shown, in this case we use USB port.
17. Click 'Open File'. In the 'File' list box or its icon, then select 'Text Files (*.txt)' and then open the
text file; for example 'CP101CA Version1.0.txt'.
18. After open the file, it will show warning messages 'No data loaded in data section!'. Just
ignore it and click OK.
19. You can verify memory of the Microcontroller by clicking the 'Blank check' button if the Main
Board is new and hasn't be flashed before.
20. If you see Error Message as shown in the following window, your application is encountering a
problem. It might be due to the Main Board not connected properly to the PC. Please check the
cable connection between PC to Main Board. Ensure that the device and port are defined
correctly, and press the 'Reset' button on the Main Board. For I series main board and display
board, you only need to do a power cycle. Turn off and on the power of the CCL/CLM.

21. If your application has the correct settings, click the 'Erase & Write & Verify & Run' button.
With one button, it will do 4 actions all at once. You will see a progress bar running, showing
the erasing, programming and verification progress. After flashing success, at the progress
section it will show messages 'Ready!'.
Note : Please disconnect MSP-JTAG-TINY V.2 Connector from your Main Board and press the
Main Board 'Reset' button before you switch ON your product.
22. If you removed the Main Board from the electrical panel, you can install it back into your
product referring to the electrical diagram, and check the wiring again before connecting your
product to the power.
23 a) In order to do a simple check whether or not you have the correct software in your unit for
Sentinel© Gold/Silver/ XL, press the SET button when the unit is operating in NORMAL
mode. The software variant and version would be displayed on the LCD. Picture below is
example for check software version for Sentinel© Gold.
b) To do a simple check whether or not you have the correct software in your unit for Sentinel©
Delta, press both MUTE+SET button simultaneously when the unit is operating in NORMAL
mode, then enter “VER” menu. The software variant and version would be displayed on the
7-Segment. Display message for Software Version will toggle.
c) For CCL and CLM, you need to go to MENU>SERVICE>DIAGNOSTIC READ OUT on the
LCD screen.
24. Please remember to re-calibrate your product.
