Exhaust Opacity Meter

In-situ Smoke Monitoring for Combustion Development and Calibration

The IAV EOM 200, IAV’s new

exhaust opacity meter, can be used
in both engine test cell and on-road
vehicle applications for combustion
measurement and smoke calibration.

Application
Legislative requirements for particulate matter, and therefore black smoke,
are becoming increasingly stringent (e.g. US Tier 2, LEV II). Consequently, it is
essential for engine developers to use a reliable and precise tool for smoke cali-
bration. The new IAV exhaust opacity meter enables fast and reliable
determination of the exhaust gas opacity. It can be placed both in engine test
cells and on vehicles in the field. The instrument is easy to handle and can be
incorporated into common calibration systems. The cross-sensitivity to other
exhaust compounds is negligible and background noise is minimized through
continuous automated self-calibration. Measuring head with integrated optics
