A. Course Code / Title : SOLMEN 112 – SOLID MESURATION

B. Module Number : Module 6 – Solid Geometry – Rectangular Parallelepiped

C. Time Frame : 6th week ( 2 hours)

D. Description : This module will give ideas about rectangular parallelepiped, to

understand things about the theorems, properties and formulas to
solve problems.

E. Objectives : At the end of these module, the learner should be able to:
1. Have a deeper understanding about theorems, properties,
formula relating to rectangular parallelepiped.
2. Solve problems relating to rectangular parallelepiped.

F. Contents :

Solid Geometry – Rectangular Parallelepiped

Rectangular Parallelepiped

A rectangular parallelepiped is a polyhedron whose six are

all rectangles.

Properties:

1. The parallel edges of a rectangular parallelepiped are equal.

2. The opposite lateral faces of a rectangular parallelepiped are equal and parallel.
3. Any two opposite faces of a rectangular parallelepiped may be taken as the bases.
4. Every section of a rectangular parallelepiped made by a plane parallel to the base is equal in
area to that of the base.

Now, are you ready to solve problems regarding rectangular parallelepiped? If yes, ready your
calculator and let’s start:

Problems:

1. Counting 38 ft3 of coal to a ton, how many tons will a coal bin 19 ft long, 6 ft wide and 9 ft deep
contain, when level full?
Given:
C =38 ft3/ton
a = 19ft
b = 6ft
c = 9ft

2. Compute the cost of the lumber necessary to resurface a foot-bridge 16 ft wide and 150 ft long with
2-in planks, if lumber is $40 per 1000 board feet. Neglect waste. (1 bd. Ft. = 1 ft x 1 ft x 1 in)

3. Building bricks are closely stacked in a pile 7 ft. high, 36 ft. long and 12 ft. wide. If the bricks are 2 in
by 4in by 9 in, how many bricks are in the pile?
Given:
Dimension of Stacked pile:
A = 7 ft.
B = 36 ft.
C = 12 ft.
