Teenage Pregnancy and its Consequences
A pleasant day to each one of you. I am here standing before you to deliver a speech regarding teenage
pregnancy and the consequences brought by it. When we hear the word teenage, most of us will think
that this is the stage in our lives where we are enjoying and exploring life. This is the time where self-
discovery, fun adventures with friends, and energy-filled days and nights take place. However, all of
these memorable and fun experiences may vanish if pregnancy occurs during teenage life. Teenage
pregnancy is the occurrence of pregnancy in individuals who are between ages of thirteen and nineteen
years old. It is a time when youthful vitality collides with the heavy obligations of parenthood. It
significantly creates issues that influence not just oneself but also society.
One of the problems faced in teenage pregnancy is dealing with the emotional and psychological impact
brought by it. Teenagers may experience anxiety, depression, and even lower self-esteemed. They may
also receive judgements from peers and society, which can further worsen their mental well-being.
Teenage pregnancy can also lead to different health issues for both the mother and the baby, and can
have a higher risk of complications during pregnancy and birth, because teen’s body are still young and
developing. In addition, it can disrupts teenager’s education and their dreams in the future. Balancing
the responsibilities of parenthood while pursuing education can be challenging, and because of this,
teenage parents often struggle to complete high school or attain higher education resulting to low
career opportunities in the future.
Teenage pregnancy can also have impacts to society and to the country as a whole. Teenage parents
often face lower educational attainment and reduced earning potential, which can contribute to higher
rates of poverty and reliance on public assistance programs. Also, teenage parents may face difficulty in
proving adequate care and support for their children, which can impact the overall well-being and the
development of next generation. These effects can contribute to the factors that prevent the success of
the country.
In relation to the famous saying “Every Problem has a solution”, teenage pregnancy has solutions that
can lessen and prevent the rates of teenage pregnancy. One is conducting a comprehensive sex
education in schools. Implementing this kind of program at school is important for providing accurate
information about sexual health and responsible decision-making. Additionally, since it is a big taboo to
discuss sexual matters at home, individuals grow up unaware of these topics. Therefore, providing sex
education at school will assist them become aware and informed about appropriate sex education.
Access to contraceptives is also crucial to reduce teenage pregnancy rates. This can be achieved through
various means such as providing free or affordable contraceptives and making it available in schools or
community centers.
Joining teenage pregnancy prevention programs can also play significant role in raising awareness about
teenage pregnancy. Programs like this offer counselling and empowering teenagers to focus on their
goals in life rather than engaging in any sexual activities. In this way, teenagers will be more likely to
delay parenthood and focus on their own growth and future prospects.
To sum it up, teenage pregnancy remains a significant issue in the country that needs our attention and
action for it does not only affect oneself but also the whole country. It is also important to note that
being a teenage parent is not a reason for us to judge them, instead we should help and encourage
them to do their best to support their child and continue their education as much as possible. And for all
the teenagers, we should help ourselves be aware and be informed about this matter for us to avoid it
and lessen the rate of teenage pregnancy in the country.
