III. NỘI DUNG KHOA HỌC CỦA CHUYÊN ĐỀ
1 Tính cấp thiết:
Innovation has become a key factor in promoting economic development (Zhang
et. al, 2021). In the last half-decade, Chinese companies have demonstrated
unprecedented levels of innovation. In 2016, the National Supercomputing Center in
Wuxi unveiled the Sunway TaihuLight, boasting 10.65 million CPU cores and
securing its position as the world’s fastest supercomputer. Simultaneously,
Guangzhou-based Ehang Inc. introduced the Ehang 184, the world's inaugural aerial
passenger drone, capable of autonomously transporting an individual in the air for 23
minutes. These remarkable achievements in diverse industries signal a new era of
Chinese ingenuity (Prud’homme & Zedtwitz, 2018). The R&D paradigm involves
foreign firms competing in higher-end markets, while Chinese companies focus on
lower-end markets, often indirectly competing with foreign R&D (Prud’homme &
Zedtwitz, 2018). Not only for China, multinational companies are also increasingly
locating R&D activities in emerging markets (Yip & McKern, 2014). Therefore,
analyzing the effects of R&D activities on Chinese firms' innovation performance
helps us gauge the success or hindrance of R&D-induced innovation.
This study focusing on the case of China and drawing lessons for Vietnam,
carries significant implications for economic development and strategic decision-
making. China's rapid economic growth, driven in part by substantial R&D
investments, provides a valuable case study for understanding the dynamics between
innovation and R&D in an emerging context. By extrapolating lessons from China's
experience, the study can offer insights tailored to the specific circumstances of
Vietnam, aiding policymakers, businesses, and investors in crafting strategies that
leverage R&D for sustained economic growth. The research can guide Vietnam in
formulating effective innovation policies, optimizing resource allocation for R&D,
and enhancing its global competitiveness. Overall, this study has the potential to
contribute practical insights that are crucial for emerging economies seeking to
harness the power of R&D to drive innovation and economic advancement.
2 Mục tiêu và phương pháp nghiên cứu:
2.1. Mục tiêu nghiên cứu:
(1) Identify the key factors that contribute to the success or hindrance of R&D-
induced innovation in the context of China;
(2) Conduct a comparative analysis of the innovation ecosystems in China and
Vietnam, considering the role of government policies, industry collaborations,
educational institutions, and other contributing factors.
2.2. Phương pháp nghiên cứu:
- Methodology: Quantitative method with regression model
- Data collection method: Panel secondary data from 1000 Chinese firms from 2010 to
2019
- Data analysis method: The authors estimate the model using panel data, which strives
to explain the effects of R&D investment on firm innovation in China from 2010 to 2019.
We employed a linear model specification, therefore the calculated coefficients are
constant elasticities that reflect the change in the dependent variable due to a unit change
in the explanatory variables.
