Meteorology Exam Study Guide

This document provides a road map for studying meteorology by outlining 29 chapters from reference books, identifying the most important chapters to focus on, and highlighting key topics within each chapter. It recommends referring to 26 chapters, excluding chapters on weather radar, satellite reports, and flight forecasts. Important topics are listed for each in-depth chapter, such as atmospheric composition, pressure variation, temperature factors, density, humidity, wind types, visibility issues, cloud formation and types, stability, optical phenomena, precipitation, icing, thunderstorms, fronts, tropical systems, jet streams, mountain waves, Indian climatology, and station models. The document aims to help guide efficient exam preparation in meteorology.

(Try to complete all Small Chapters in a Single day, like for example chapter 1-5
all these are pretty familiar and straight forward. Likewise, Chapter No. 6/13 /
19 are pretty Vast, just go with the Flow).

Some Imp. Topics to cover from each chapter

% of constituents of Nitrogen, Oxygen and Other gases
Ratio of Nitrogen and Oxygen with respect to weight and volume
Sensible heat and latent heat and their %
Characteristics of different layers of atmosphere(One Qn)
ISA deviation full
(MANY QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED FROM THIS CHAPTER ALONE)
2. PRESSURE
Pressure variation with altitude (if they ask any met question in NAV Paper,
then higher chances they'll ask from pressure itself)
Contour definition
*By heart the standard isobaric levels chart
Altimeter variation with temperature and pressure change H-L-H & L-H-L(One
Qn)

3. Temperature
Conduction / convection / radiation / Insolation

Direct definition of density, density altitude relation with temperature and
pressure

5. Humidity
Relative humidity and absolute humidity
Dew point based questions
Relative humidity change with temperature and altitude.

6. Wind (Vast Chapter)

Gust / Lulls/ Squall/ Gale(One Qn)
Backing and Veering
Coriolis force on wind movement in Northern hemisphere and Southern
hemisphere
Effect of Coriolis force
Types of wind/ turbulence mainly wake turbulence was asked(Might ask in
Nav)
Local winds ~ Anabatic and Katabatic and Fohn winds(One Qn).
7. Visibility and Fog
RVR definition or Qn's based on RVR
Haze/ Mist/ Fog - Visibility (Very Imp. )
Types of fog - Advection and radiation(One Qn)

8. Clouds (Vast Topic)

Convergence and Divergence
How clouds are formed by different methods like frontal lifting/ Oreographic
lifting/ Due to low pressure.
Types of clouds
Clouds in stratosphere and Mesosphere(One Qn).
(By heart all the properties of each clouds and their Heights) Etc.
CB cloud main(don't confuse it with Cumulus Cloud)
Cloud amount 1-2/8 3-4/8 5-7/8 8/8.

Relationship between DALR - ELR - SLR(One Qn)
under stability and instability criteria
Inversion layer

10. Optical phenomenon:-

Halo is present in Ciro-Stratus cloud due to Refraction
Corona is present in Alto-stratus due to diffraction
Bishop's ring ka radius
Northern lights and Southern lights

11. Precipitation
Just glance different theory’s behind Rain,
What is Sleet/ Cloud burst (One Q.n)
12. Icing
Different types of icing their and classification
Engine Icing
