Section A (to be done on this paper itself)

1. Aaron is making a mini zoo model for his project work. He came up with the
following map after doing all the calculations.

Answer the following questions based on the Map:

a) Perimeter of the ‘Kangaroo and Koala Exhibit’ is _______.
b) Perimeter of the ‘Giraffe and zebra exhibit’ is __________.
c) Area of the snack bar is _.
d) Area of the Entrance is __________ .
e) Area and perimeter of the ‘Wetland exhibit’ is ________ and ________
respectively.
f)Perimeter of the Elephant exhibit is ________ .
g) Area and perimeter of the mini zoo model is _______and ________ .

2. Fill in the blanks with appropriate algebraic expression:

3. Show the path to get from the start of the maze to the exit.

4. Bob has simplified the following algebraic expressions but made an error.
Spot the Error by circling it with red colour and write the correct answer.
i) x 2 (3x 2 + 5y + 6).
= x 2 (3x 2 + 5y + 6)
= (x2 × 3x2) + (x2 × 5y) + (x2 × 6)
= 3x4 + 5x3 + 6x2
ii) (4x3 + 4x2 - 8x) - (8x2 - 16x + 4)
= 4x3 + 4x2 - 8x - 8x2 - 16x - 4
= 4x3 + 12x2 - 24x - 4

Section B (to be done on a separate sheet)

1. Simply the following algebraic expressions:
(i) Multiply
1. 3(x2 + 2x + 6)
2. 5(x2 + 4x – 3)
3. 3x2 (2x2 + 5x + 10)
4. –5x6 (3x2 – 12x + 30)
5. –2x3 (3x2 + 4x + 5)
6. 3x2y2z(7x2 + 2y + z + 4w)

(ii) Divide
i) 144x5y18 by 12x4y2
ii) 6x5y5 by 12x4y2
iii) 2x2 - 10x +12 by -2x
iv) ( - 12x2 + 17xy -99xy2) by 3x
(iii) Add
1. 2y2 + 3yz, -y2 - yz – z2 and yz +2z2
2. 5m – 7n, 3n - 4m +2 and 2m – 3mn – 5
3. (6x3 - 2x2 +1) + (10x2 +4)
4. (5x4 + 3x5 - 9x2 ) + (7x2 - 4x5+ 8x4 )
(iv) Subtract:
1. 24ab – 10b – 18a from 30ab +12b +14a
2.(12x4 +6x2 -2x) - (8x2 - 11x4+5x)
3. (10x3+6x +5x2-1) - ( 7x2 + 7x)
(v) How much does 3ab-2a2-2b2 exceed 5a2-7ab+5b2
(vi) Take away 12x2 + 11x – 50 from (–4x3 + 15x2 – 40x)

3. The diagram shows a soccer field

divided into three sections. The
measurements shown are in feet. Find the
area of the soccer field.

4. Each side of a square field is 17m. Find

(i) its perimeter (ii) its area.
5. The area of a square is 196 cm2. Find
(i) the length of each side of the square
(ii) the perimeter of the square

6. Find the perimeter and area of a rectangle whole:

(i) length = 21cm, breadth = 8cm
(ii) length = 25cm , breadth = 12 cm

ANSWER KEY
1.
(a) 26 cm (e) 20 cm2 and 18 cm
(b) 28 cm (f) 30 cm
(c) 6 cm2 (g) 238 cm2 and 62 cm
(d) 32 cm2
2.
3.

4.
i) x 2 (3x 2 + 5y + 6).
= x 2 (3x 2 + 5y + 6)
= (x2 × 3x2) + (x2 × 5y) + (x2 × 6)
= 3x4 + 5x3 + 6x2
Correct Answer: 3x4 + 5x2y+ 6x2
ii) (4x3 + 4x2 - 8x) - (8x2 - 16x + 4)
= 4x3 + 4x2 - 8x - 8x2 - 16x - 4
= 4x3 + 12x2 - 24x - 4
The student did not change the sign of –16x before combining like terms.
Correct Answer: 4x3 + 4x2 - 8x - 8x2 + 16x - 4
=4x3 - 4x2 + 8x - 4

(iv)
1. 6ab + 22b + 32a
2.23x4 - 2x2- 7x
3.10x3-x -2x2-1
(v)3ab-2a2-2b2 exceeds 5a2-7ab+5b2 by 10ab – 7a2 – 7b2
(vi) –4x3 + 3x2– 51x + 50

3. Area of the soccer field = Length × Breadth

= ( 3x2 + 2x + 5) (4x2y)
= 12x4y + 8x3y + 20x2y

4. Perimeter = 4 × side = 4×17 = 68m

Area= (side)2 = (17)2 = 17×17 = 289m2
5.
(i) Area of a square = (side)2 = √196 = 14cm
