There are four main types of ROM: ROM, which is programmed during manufacturing and cannot be changed; PROM, which is similar to ROM but can be programmed by the user and then cannot be erased or rewritten; EPROM, which can be erased by exposing it to UV light to allow rewriting; and EEPROM, which can be electrically erased and rewritten independently without needing UV light.

Types of ROM
It is programmed during the
ROM READ ONLY MEMORY manufacturing process . The information once written on it cannot be changed .
It is similar to ROM . The only
PROM PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY difference is that it is MEMORY manufactured as a blank chip . User can get a blank PROM chip and program it using a PROM programmer or PROM burner .But once written , it cannot be erased or rewritten.
It has an additional feature
EPROM ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE where data once written can ROM be erased or re-written by exposing to strong UV light. It is time consuming.
Can be independently read ,
EEPROM ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE erased and re-written PROM electronically ; no need of UV light.
