2D Shapes

This document discusses two-dimensional shapes and objects. It aims to teach students to [1] identify and describe basic 2D shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles, and [2] construct figures using cutouts of these shapes. The lesson motivates students through puzzles requiring them to name shapes. It discusses tangrams, which use seven flat shapes to form objects, and defines characteristics of 2D shapes. Students are then quizzed on identifying shapes and assigned to construct figures using shape cutouts.

“Two-Dimensional Objects”

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. Identify, name, and describe four basic shapes(square, rectangle, triangle and circle) in two-
dimensional (flat/plane)objects ; and
b. Construct any figure using cut outs of squares,rectangles,triangles,circles,half-circles and quarter
circles.

II. MOTIVATION:

“PUZZLE ME/FIX ME”

1. The class will be divided into two groups.
2. Each group will be given a puzzle piece to solve.
3. They will choose a representative to name the shapes they've used.
4. The first group to finish will receive 10 points, while another group will receive 5 points.

III. DISCUSSION:

TANGRAM
 Is a chinese puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes that can be arrange to make various figures.
 The piece of tangram are one square, one parallelogram, and five triangles

Example:

TWO-DIMENSIONAL SHAPES
•They are only be drawn on a flat surface such as paper.
•They have two dimensions length and width.
•Two-dimensional shapes are also called plane shapes.

Here are some of the common 2D shapes

1.Triangle - it has 3 sides and 3 acute angles.

2.Square - It has four equal sides, and four right angles.

3.Rectangle - It has four opposite sides with equal lengths, and four right angles.

4.Pentagon - It has five sides and five angles.

5. Circle has no length or width but it is also considered as a two-dimensional shape. When you divide
circle into two equal parts, each part is called a(6) half-circle.When you divide circle into four equal parts,
each part is called(7) quarter circle.

. .

IV. EVALUATION
Quiz:
"WHO AM I?"
Write in a 1/4 sheet pf paper.Identify what shape is being asked.
1.I have four equal sides and four angles.Who am I? answer.(SQUARE)
2.I have a shape like a doughnut.Who am I? answer.(CIRCLE)
3.I have two pairs of equal sides,I have four sides.Who am I? answer.(RECTANGLE)
4.I am made up of three segments.Who am I? answer.(TRIANGLE)
5.I am a close plane figure,I am made up of five sides.Who am I? answer.(PENTAGON)

.
V. ASSIGNMENT:
Using the cut outs of triangle, square, rectangle, circle, half-circle and quarter circle.Make any figure that
can be seen in your sorroundings. Put it in a long bond paper(10 points).
