Desktop Migration Proposal
Mary Joy Williams
Section 1: PC Purchase Research
To start off my research, I consulted the Corporate PC Refresh Documentation to note the
needs and specifications of the different users within the company. Upon comparing the
minimum requirements needed by both common and creative/Coder users, I compiled a list of
most popular manufacturers in the IT field. I narrowed my search to three picks, which are HP,
Dell, and Lenovo. These manufacturers were recommended for office and work laptops. Using
Microsoft’s “Find Your New Windows PC” application, I narrowed down my search to different
models that fit the basic standard needed.
The Microsoft Application recommended four devices that were ideal for work and
creative uses. One Lenovo device, and three HP devices. It provided the specifications for each
device along with prices. From these four recommendations, I then cross reference them with
Lenovo and HP’s configuration tool to decide which devices would be the best fit for the
company’s users.
Section 2: PC Purchase Recommendation
Base on the results produced by the Microsoft application, I cross referenced each device
specification using the manufacturers online configuration tool, in order to determine the best
devices for the company.
For the company desktop migration, I recommend using HP Spectre x360 2-in1 Laptop.
This device is customizable; therefore, specifications can be changed to meet the needs of the
different users in the company. For the Common User, my recommended specification would the
HP Spectre x360 2-in1 Laptop with an Intel Core i5 processor with Intel Iris XE Graphics and 8
GB of memory. This device will have 512 GB of storage with a built-in web cam. This device is
perfect for in office use and for hybrid work. For creative users, I recommend the HP Spectre
x360 2-in1 Laptop with Intel Core i7 with Intel Iris XE Graphics and 16 GB of memory. The
device will still have 512 GB of storage with a built-in web cam. This provides user with ample
space to save creative work.
Both devices come equipped with Windows 11 Home as an operating system along with
a HP True Vision 5MP IR camera with camera shutter, temporal noise reduction and integrated
dual array digital microphones. The device comes with a HP rechargeable tilt pen and a
fingerprint reader. This provides security for device access both inside company spaces and
outside company space. Microsoft Office 2021 Home and Business will be added on as
additional software along with A 30 DAY TRIAL OF McAfee LiveSafe. The devices come with
a 1-year limited hardware warranty and a 1-year limited technical support. The device comes
with 1 USB-Type-C port, USB A, HDMI 2.1, and a MicroSD reader.
Overall, this device provides flexibility and customizability for the needs of the company.
All these features are available at a price of $1,124.98 for the Common User device and
$1,334.98 for the Creative and Coder Users.
