Population Class 10 Icse

Population density in India is increasing due to declining death rates and sustained birth rates, putting pressure on natural resources. As population grows, there is less open space and increased environmental pollution from industry. Growing populations also risk shortages of food, water, and other necessities as well as deforestation. Methods of contraception like tubectomy and vasectomy can help control population growth rates.

Population

 Population Density: is the number of individuals per square kilometers at

any given time.
 Factors responsible for population growth:
- Decrease in the death rate due to improved medical facilities with birth
rate remaining the same is one of the major causes of population growth
in India.
- As most families in rural areas are below poverty line, they think having
large families will increase their source of income by sending children to
work.
- Large scale immunization against fatal diseases.
 Problems due to increasing population.
- Decreasing open spaces.
- Increasing industrialization causing air, water and soil pollution.
- Rapid and intense shortage of drinking water and other resources.
 Rising population- pressure on natural resources
- Shortage of food.
- Availability of clean and germ-free water for drinking purposes.
- Deforestation to get more land for cultivation and housing forests, which
causes flash floods, soil erosion, global warming.
 Demography: is the statistical study of human population. This is specially
with reference to size and density, distribution and other vital statistics.
 Birth rate or Natality rate is the number of live births per 1000 people of
population per year.
 Death rate or Morality rate is the number of deaths per 1000 of population
per year.
 Growth rate of population is the difference between the birth rate and the
death rate.
 Methods of contraception:
 Tubectomy (for females): in this the abdomen is opened and the
fallopian tube (oviduct) are cut or ligated i.e, tied with nylon thread to
close the passage of the eggs.
 Vasectomy (in male): a small cut is made in scrotum, vas deference
(sperm duct) from each testes is ligated and a small piece between the
two ligatures is removed.
