Wires and Cable
A wire is a single strand of metal capable of transmitting power or data from one area to another. Wires are
often protected in a plastic covering that is sometimes color-coded to aid in identification. A cable is composed
of multiple wires. Wired is also the name of a magazine dedicated to computers and computer-related
information.
WIRELESS
Wireless is the use of Wi-Fi technology to connect to the Internet. The network signal is transmitted via radio
waves and microwaves to the computer, giving the user access to the Internet.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WIRES AND CABLES
Typically, both wires and cables are the same, The only difference being, the wire is an electrical conductor,
while a cable is a group of conductors enclosed in a guarded covering. There are regulations regarding which
wires and cables suit specific electrical applications and their precise installation methods.
GAUGE
A gauge is an important measuring device in the field of design engineering. It is a device used to provide
certain dimensional information, according to a specified standard or system.
Some gauges are meant to measure the size of the object. But most gauges are used to specify if the
dimensions of the measuring object are less or greater than defined standards that are within the tolerance
range. Gauges can be operated electrically or mechanically.
WIRE GAUGE
Differing cross sectional sizes of wires are known as wire gauges, they are organized by the American Wire
Gauge system (AWG). Knowing the gauge is important because each is rated for a different ampacity, meaning
that each wire size has a maximum electric current it can handle before damage (possibly serious) might occur.
HOW ARE WIRES SIZED?
While different wires serve specific purposes, knowing the right wire size, also known as the gauge, will aid
your electrical. The measurements determine the amount of current that can safely pass through the wire
without generating damage. In addition to this, each wire gauge size has a safe Ampacity, which is a measure
of electrical current.
