STATEMENT OF RESEARCH INTEREST|| PhD-HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS

Introduction
I am Moses Udoisoh, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Port Harcourt. I am
captivated by the interdisciplinary nature of high energy physics, particularly as it intersects with fluid
dynamics in the realm of particle accelerator design. I am applying for a Ph.D. position in the high-energy
physics group at Ohio State University, a program that aligns perfectly with my research interests and
career aspirations.

Research Motivation
My zeal for this field is fueled by my intrinsic curiosity about the intricacies of complex engineering
systems like particle accelerators. I am drawn to the transformative potential of high-energy physics in
advancing technology, unraveling new phenomena, and contributing to our fundamental understanding
of the universe.

Previous Research Experience

I have undertaken two research projects under Professor Mkpo Nso at the University of Port Harcourt.
The first, involving computational fluid dynamics (CFD), sought to improve microchannel heat sink
performance by simulating flow characteristics and heat transfer using Python-based finite volume
methods. The second project was an explorative analysis of beam pipe designs in particle accelerators.
Utilizing both CFD and experimental tests, we scrutinized the impacts of geometry, material choices, and
boundary conditions on flow behavior and pressure drops.

Acquired Skills and Methodological Approaches

Through these experiences, I have garnered a skill set crucial for high-energy physics research:
 Proficiency in programming languages: Python and MATLAB
 Hands-on experience with computational tools: ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics, SolidWorks,
LabVIEW
 Deep understanding of foundational theories: fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, turbulence,
magnetohydrodynamics
 Expertise in simulation: mesh generation, solver settings, post-processing
 Experimental acumen: data acquisition, instrumentation calibration, and validation
I have also published a peer-reviewed paper and received accolades for my work, reaffirming the quality
and relevance of my research contributions.

Future Research Plans

As I envision my Ph.D. journey, I aim to focus on the following pivotal questions:
 How can the design and optimization of accelerator components be revolutionized?
 What are the underlying fluid dynamics phenomena influencing particle accelerator systems?
 How can real-time flow parameters be better controlled to ensure stable and high-quality particle
beams?
 Can our findings extend their applicability to other engineering sectors such as aerospace or
energy?
Fit with Program
Your institution's exceptional reputation in high-energy physics research makes it an ideal platform for
my pursuits. I am particularly intrigued by design of fluid based detectors for Neutrinos and the state-of-
the-art resources like Bosons Chambers and underground Neutrino Detectors on campus.

Conclusion
I am eager to delve into these research questions and contribute meaningfully to [Institution's Name]'s
ongoing projects. I believe my background, skills, and ambitions make me an excellent candidate for your
program.

Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the possibility of furthering my research
under the auspices of your esteemed institution and am looking forward to your positive response.

Sincerely,
Moses Udoisoh
