BPE 17 – COORDINATED SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM

Course Name Coordinated School Health Program
Course Credits 3 Units Lecture per week
Course Description This course deals with the activités and services designed to
promote the students optimum development. The eight health
related areas over all the aspects of school environment. This
include family and community health involvement, comprehensive
school health eduation, physical éducation, school health
services, nutrition services, counseling, and psychological social
services, healthy social environment and school site and health
promotion for staff.

Course Objectives By the end of the semester, the learners will be able to:
1. Understand the relationship between schools and their
mission, and the history, policies, and interventions to
promote health and prevent disease in schools;
2. Describe the structure and function of coordinated school
health programs and the social, health, and academic
benefits of these programs to schools, families, and
communities;
3. Analyze how each coordinated school health program
component contributes to the social, health, and academic
outcomes of students, schools, families, and communities
using a combination of current literature and in-school
observations; and
4. Apply the principles of coordinated school health to a specific
public health problem to develop a set of policy and program
recommendations for school health programs to address this
problem
5. Explain the coordinated school health program in the 21st
century teaching.
6. Reflect on the importance of the eight components of
coordinated school health such as: health education, healthy
school environment. school health services, health promotion
for staff, physical education and physical activity, nutrition
services, counseling and psychological services, and family
and community involvement.3
7. Provide activities related to the eight components of the
coordinated school health program
