Configuring Latest Events Module

This documentation is applicable to Joomla! 1.7 and
upwards.
What can this module do?
Here are a few screen shots, of the latest events Module in action:
1. Showing Events with images(Using the Standard Images and File Upload Plugin)
2. Showing Events, with the Days to Go until the event thrown in using the Ruthin Layout:
3. This module is set to show the latest created events, and using the Iconic Layout.
4. This module has been modified to includes the Rocket Theme blog layout style to work
in conjunction with the Rocket Theme Cerulean template. Whilst working with RSVP Pro
for event registration.
1. Download
To start, go to www.jevents.net and proceed to the download Area.
You will need to download the JEvents Latest Events Module.
2. Installation
Proceed to your Joomla! Extensions menu and select Extension Manager. Then select
'Choose File' from the 'Upload Package File' option, select the JEvents Latest Events
Module you just downloaded.
3. Setup and Configuration
Go to the Joomla Extensions Menu and select Module Manager, then click New from the
top menu. You will be presented with a pop-up box with a list of available Modules select
'Latest Jevents', once selected you will be taken to a screen that looks like this:
To start you need to decide what you want to module to be called, to start we will call it
“Latest Events”, so type that in the Title. Choose whether or not you want the title to be
shown from the 'Show' and 'Hide' option. Next you will want to Select the module position,
module positions change depending on your sites template, please refer to Joomla!'s
template positions or your template creators positions documentation. Select Status to
Published, then the Access is set to Public by default, you can change this to Special if you
are testing the module and do not yet want it viewable to the public.
4. Basic Options - Parameters
1. Choose Layout View – Allows you to select a different layout to be used within
the Latest Event Module to that which is set in the JEvents Configuration Globally.
2. Enable Cache – Is self explanatory
3. Module Class Suffix – Some templates have custom module block styles defined
by CSS, if your template has this option enter the class here, for example:
table.moduletable .
4. Lock Category Filters – Setting this to Yes will always show events from the
selected categories, even if the page view is filtered by category selection.
5. Ignore JEvents Filter Module – If you have the JEvents Filter Module set-up,
with this option you can choose to ignore the values it sets.
6. Target Menu Item – Select the menu item, which you want module to use
7. Include Events Latest CSS – Allows you to select whether you want to use the
Calendars Layout for the module styling.
8. Override Layout - Allows you to apply your own module style by defining the
template layout over ride here, e.g. detail2 or calendar2.
9. Settings Selection – Selects whether to use the settings below or the settings
from the Latest Events Tab, within the JEvents configuration. To confine everything
within one place, it is best to set it to Use Component Settings
5. Basic Options – Parameters Extended.
These are the options which are displayed within the JEvents Configuration under the Latest
Events tab. But are also shown under the Basic Options within the Module Parameters. The
settings you change are dependant on what option you have selected in the Module
Parameters, To edit the settings within the JEvents Configuration make sure the 'Use
Settings' option is set to 'Use Component Settings' and vice versa.
1. Custom Format String – This is the code which is used to output the events
within the module, you can customise this to your needs. For more information on

Here are the configurations used for the example screen shot's at the beginning of
this manual:

2. Maximum Events to display – Set it to the number of events you wish to
display within the module.
3. Display Mode – Gives the choice of what event's / order you want to be
displayed
0. Current / Following Week Events – Will display the events for the Current and Following Week.
1. Current / Following Week Events Including Past – Same as above, but include past events.
2. Nearest Events – Will display events nearest to 'today'.
3. Nearest Events Including Past -Same as above, but including past events.
4. Nearest Events For Current Month – Shows the events nearest 'today' for the current month.
5. Most Recently Created Events – Allows you to display the most recently created events, newest event shows first.
6. Most Popular Events – Shows the event's which have had the most hits, generally being most popular.
4. Display Events the of the next ? days(modes 2, 3, 5 and 6 only) -
This option is only a applicable to Display Modes 2,3,5 and 6. The number entered
here is the amount of days JEvents looks into the future(or past depending on the
option) for events to display within the module.
5. Start Now – Setting to yes, will start measuring the time from now instead of
midnight.
6. Past Events Only – This allows you to show only Past Events or Future Events.
7. Display Repeating Event Once – Allows you to show the First of a repeating
event only and not all of the repeats.
8. Multi-day Event Display – Controls the way events that occur over more than
1 day are displayed within the module
1. Use Setting From the Event Itself -
2. Display on all Days – Will display the event on every day it occurs.
3. Display on first Day Only – Shows the event on it's start date only.
4. Display Once even if it started in the past – Will show the event once in the list, but on every day it occurs.
9. Display Events As Links – Show as plain text or as hyper-links.
10. Display the Year in the Events Date – If using the default custom string
you can use this to display the year as well.
11. Disable default CSS Date Field Style – This allows you to disable the CSS
Date Field Style, which is applied by the mod_events_latest_date CSS class.
12. Disable default CSS Title Field Style – This allows you to disable the CSS
Title Field Style, which is applied by the mod_events_latest_date CSS class.
13. Display Link to the Calendar Component – Allows you to show the “View
Calendar” link and either the top or bottom of the module.
14. Hide Links – If set to Yes, links are set dynamically by the JavaScript onclick
event. Doing so prevents search engines from following the links.
15. Sort Reverse – If set to Yes, the events are sorted backwards to there current
way.
16. Display RSS Link – Allows you to display an RSS Link at the bottom of the
module if enabled.
17. RSS Title – Set's the title of the RSS Feed
18. RSS Description – Is the description of the RSS Feed.
