Social, Cultural, and Political Change

• The world has undergone countless changes and still

continues to do.
• Global processes of social, cultural, and political
changes continue to affect people and nations in a
variety of ways.
• In the last decade or so, the world faced contemporary
issues such as climate change, migration, advanced
technology, and the age of the internet.
Social, Cultural, and Political Change

• In the context of changing globalized world, the

transformation will always be permanent.
• People nowadays are wired to think that change
always happens and that the only way to move
forward is to embrace it.

Social, Cultural, and Political Change

• Innovation.
Innovation is the process of introducing new ideas,
devices, or methods.
Innovation is the driving force that leads to the
improvement of life.
Innovation occurs through the combined effort of
different agents in society such as organizations,
institutions, people, culture, tradition, and technology.

• Diffusions.
The process of diffusion allows cultural knowledge,
practices, ideas, concepts, materials (fashion, food,
entertainment), and technology to spread from one
community to one social system to another.
Diffusion allows traits, characteristics, and ideas to
spread across societies.
Social, Cultural, and Political Change

• Acculturation and Assimilation.

Acculturation is the process in which members of one
cultural group adopt the beliefs and behaviors of
another group because of a certain interaction between
them.
Diffussion is simply knowing a culture through an
interaction.
Acculturation, however, occurs when a minority group
abandons own practices and culture.
Social, Cultural, and Political Change

Assimilation is when individuals who underwent the

acculturation process acquire the political, economic,
cultural, and educational standards of the dominant
culture.
Individuals who take on the traits and characteristics
of the dominant culture become socially
indistinguishable from other members of society. It is
the highest form of acculturation.
Social, Cultural, and Political Change

• Social Contradictions and Tensions.

This refers to differences in ideological beliefs, norms,
practices, and faith that have led people to conflict
and tension with others.
These differences are resolved through diplomatic ways.
If diplomatic means are not enough, human violence
continues. The constant clashed have changed the
course of history.
New Challenges to Human Adaptation and Social Change

• Natural Disasters.
Earthquake is something we should prepare for. There
is no available scientific procedure or machine that
can predict earthquake.
Earthquakes are caused by volcanic eruptions or by
sudden movements of tectonic plates underneath the
earth’s crust.

Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), an
estimated 20+ typhoons enter the Philippine Area of
Responsibility (PAR) every year.

• Man-made Problems: Global warming and

Climate Change
Global warming is a significant increase in
global temperature most likely catastrophic.
Climate change is the long-term shift in weather
patterns in a specific region or globally.

Man can be blamed for this phenomena.

The primary cause of climate change is the
unprecedented release of too much greenhouse gases
such as carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and
fluorinated gases.
Carbon dioxide is released from fossil fuels that ignited
the industrial era and modernization.
