INTRODUCTORY COURSE

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?
This course is an introduction into the theory and
applications of Shell FRED 2022.

It will cover all of the fire, release, explosion and dispersion


models currently within Shell FRED, including the
sophisticated escalation modelling scenarios.

Attendees will first learn about these basics and then


practice and apply their new knowledge of the software
through hands-on exercises.
IS THIS COURSE RELEVANT FOR ME?
The course is tailored for people who plan to carry out
consequence analysis studies, for example:

Process and safety engineers working in industries,


such as oil and gas, chemical, renewable energy,
manufacturing and other process industries
Safety & risk consultants of engineering companies
Engineering managers overseeing safety & risk analysis
Risk engineers of insurance companies
Incident investigators
Regulatory body professionals
Lecturers, researchers and students

How to set up, run and extract results for a basic


range of typical scenarios
Features and functionality of Shell FRED
Scientific background to Shell FRED
The workflow in using Shell FRED
WHAT ARE THE PRACTICAL BENEFITS?
Attendees will have the capability to use Shell FRED
that will assist in carrying out safety related studies
effectively and accurately, including:

Consequence/ severity studies (analyse hazard


distances for explosions, jet and pool fires, and
flammable cloud extents)
Mitigative measures (assess the impact of mitigation
on ignited event consequences)
Risk management (provide input to Quantitative
Risk Assessment)
Regulatory compliance (COMAH/ Seveso, ATEX/
DSEAR, ALARP demonstration, etc.)
WHO IS THE INSTRUCTOR?
Graham Morrison is the Product Manager
for the Shell software products: FRED
(consequence modelling), Shepherd (QRA),
and PIPA (pre-incident planning).

He has 10 years of experience as a consultant using


tools such as Shell FRED and Shell Shepherd to conduct
modelling and develop risk assessments for clients
around the world.

Graham brings his experience of using the products to


the role of Product Manager, acting as an interface
between the users and developers.
