Belbin Self - Perception Inventory
Please spend about 15-20 minutes completing the Belbin SPI. Please note that there are
no right or wrong answers; try to respond on the basis of who you are , not who you
would like to be , Work at your own pace, taking care not to over-analyze your
responses. i.
It consists of seven sections and each section contains 10 statements. Within each
section, you have to allocate points to the statements based on how you feel they apply
to you; the sum total of points for the section must be 10.
For example, if you think that one statement applies strongly and two others apply just
little, you might distribute the points 6 for “strongly applies” and 2 each for the other
two statements. Or if two statements apply equally strongly you might allocate 5 points
to each. Alternatively you could give all the 10 points to one statement, or allocate one
point to each statement. However try to avoid over liberal use of these extremes! Please
allocate whole numbers only ~no fractions or decimals.

Your highest score indicates the role that you predominantly take within a group,
whilst your second highest score indicates a role that you can quite comfortably
perform within a group. Your lowest score indicates a role that you would not
normally take within a group.
“DR indicates ‘dropped points’. In each section, there is one ‘control item’ that is not directly relevant to any
of the specific nine Team Roles. A high score for ‘DR’ suggests that you may have difficulty in perceiving
how you actually contribute to a team and it may be helpful for you to invite some feedback from colleagues
‘on what they consider to be your contributions.
