The “AA” stop is ran to top of upper packoff assembly and set by downward
jarring action until shear pin in “GS” running / pulling tool is sheared. The
stop is held in the running position with a shear pin that is sheared when
landed and jarred downward on. The “AA” stop keeps everything in
compression as is sometimes called a “HOLDDOWN”.

AD-2 STOP
POSITIONS
RUN POSITION SET POSITION

Slips held retracted

until shear pin releases

The AD-2 Stop is ran by slickline to 5-10 ft below a specified depth and stop activated. Activate = allow spring
to push slips upward. This is accomplished by shearing 1/8” aluminum or brass pin holding the slips in the run
position. The pin is sheared by acceleration and sudden stopping of the tool string (snapping the jars). The stop
is then pulled up to the specified depth and set by jarring downward until a brass pin in the GS tool is sheared.
The shearing of the pin inside the GS retracts the GS dogs releasing it from the stop.

INSTRUCTIONS
BREAK DOWN
NOTE: DO NOT USE WRENCHES OVER THREADED
AREA OF ANY PART AS THREADS CAN BE
DAMAGED.
1 Break apart and unscrew UPPER MANDREL from
EXPANDER MANDREL with 24 inch pipe wrenches.
2 Place LOWER MANDREL in vise and remove UPPER
MANDREL from the FLOW TUBE.
3 With a 3/16" punch remove the SHEAR PINS from
the UPPER MANDREL.
4 Remove the O-Ring from the UPPER MANDREL.
5 Remove the allen head SET SCREW holding RATCHET
NUT in position.
6 Break apart and remove the RECEIVING MANDREL from
the LOWER MANDREL.
7 Remove the FLOW TUBE by grasping and turning counter
clockwise until free from RATCHET NUT. Remove O-Ring.
8 Remove RATCHET NUT from LOWER MANDREL by
turning counter clockwise and inspect internally for wear.
9 Slide EXPANDER MANDREL downward until free of
FLOW TUBE. Remove SEALING ELEMENT from FLOW
TUBE and O-Ring from Internal of EXPANDER MANDREL.

ASSEMBLY

NOTE: A light coat of hi temperature lubricant is

recommended for O-Rings and Internal of the
SEALING ELEMENT. Nickel based Anti-Seize is
recommended for the threaded connections.
1 Insert new O-Ring into O-ring groove on upper end of
the FLOW TUBE
2 Insert FLOW TUBE into UPPER MANDREL and carefully
insert O-ring into seal area until FLOW TUBE and
UPPER MANDREL have contacted metal to metal.
3 Insert 2 PLASTIC SHEAR PINS into the 2 shear pin
holes located on UPPER MANDREL.
Test that pins are in proper place by attempting to pull
the FLOW TUBE from the UPPER MANDREL.
NOTE: Test firmly but do not hammer or jar.
4 Replace O-Ring internal of EXPANDER MANDREL and
slide EXPANDER MANDREL onto the FLOW TUBE and
make up connection.
NOTE: Care should be taken not to damage inernal
O-Ring while sliding EXPANDER MANDREL over
grappling area of FLOW TUBE.
5 Insert SEALING ELEMENT onto FLOW TUBE and
position against EXPANDER MANDREL.
6 Insert new O-Ring into the o-ring profile on lower end of
the FLOW TUBE and place to the side.

Prepared by Sam Wildman 12/20/2004 Page 1

7 Insert RATCHET NUT into LOWER MANDREL and turn
clockwise until RATCHET NUT is flush with threaded area
that it screws into. Then continue to turn clockwise while
viewing through view hole until slot is lined up with view
hole.
NOTE: This part will screw in freely only in the correct
direction. DO NOT FORCE TOGETHER.
VERY IMPORTANT
Visually confirm that RATCHET NUT has not bottomed
out inside LOWER MANDREL and that there is a
3/16 to 1/4" gap between these two parts on the lower
end of the RATCHET NUT.
8 Insert allen head SET SCREW into threaded hole on
the LOWER MANDREL and turn clockwise until
RATCHET NUT will not turn but FLOW TUBE will
have sufficient turning clearance.
9 Insert RECEIVING MANDREL into the LOWER
MANDREL. Make up and tighten.
10 Insert FLOW TUBE into RECEIVING MANDREL taking
care not to damage O-Ring as it passes through the
RATCHET NUT. Make up by turning clockwise until you
feel the O-Ring enter into the sealing profile.
11 While viewing though the view hole continue to turn
clock wise until the FLAT on the FLOW TUBE is visible.
12 Turn allen head SET SCREW until it contacts the FLAT on
the FLOW TUBE.
NOTE: FLOW TUBE should have a small amount of
play but not be able to rotate.
13 Stand Packoff up right on a solid wooden surface.
Lift up 3-4 inches and allow to drop onto wooden surface
until the RECEIVING MANDREL has pushed SEALING
ELEMENT up to EXPANDER MANDREL.
SEALING ELEMENT should not be able to move about
freely but MUST NOT be expanded.
