I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard:

The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian Literature as mirror to a


shared heritage; coping strategies in processing in textual information; strategies in examining
features of a listening and viewing material; structural analysis of words and propaganda
techniques; and grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis.

B. Performance Standard:
The Learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive speech based
on an informative essay featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources,
grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic
features, stance, and behavior.
C. Learning Competency:

Analyze the intention of words or expressions used in propaganda techniques.

D. Objectives:
1. To distinguish the meaning of propaganda.
2. To tell the importance of propaganda techniques in consumer response.
3. To demonstrate the use of propaganda by promoting a local product.

1. Preparatory Activities
A. Prayer
The teacher will ask the students to stand for the prayer.
B. Greetings
The teacher will greet the students.
C. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will ask the assigned students in each group to check their attendance.
D. Checking of Surroundings
The teacher will ask the students to pick up the pieces of trash and arrange the chairs
properly.

2. Developmental Activities
A. Reviewing of the Previous Lesson
The students will recall the topic discussed the previous day.

B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson


The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will receive a piece of paper and a
marker. The task of the group is to guess the name of the television commercial based on the
tagline that will be flashed on the screen.

The teacher will explain the connection of the sentences that are formed to the topic of the
day. Then, she will present the objectives of the lesson.

The teacher will show an advertisement video of Breeze.

What is Propaganda?
Propaganda is the spreading of rumors, false or correct information, or idea to influence the
opinion of society.

How to Identify Propaganda?


In this day and age, we are bombarded by so much information about politics and social
issues that it's hard to sort it all out. One thing is for sure: It is fraught with propaganda and
the spinning of issues.

Commonly used propaganda techniques in a text.


1. Bandwagon - persuading consumers by telling them that others are doing the same thing.
2. Testimonial - when a product is sold by using words from famous people or authority
figures.

The teacher will play a video about propaganda.

Processing questions:
• What additional information did you get about Propaganda from the video presentation?

F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment 3)


The teacher will read a statement and let the students answer what propaganda technique the
teacher used.

Directions: Identify the propaganda technique used in each sentence.
