The document discusses the control signals of the 8085 microprocessor. It has two serial data transmission signals named SID and SOD. The Timing and Control unit contains three control signals - ALE, RD, and WR - and three status signals - IO/M, S0, and S1. ALE provides synchronization for instruction operation. RD and WR indicate whether an operation is a read from or write to memory. IO/M indicates whether an operation is for memory or peripherals.

It has two control signals named SID and SOD for serial data transmission.

Timing and Control unit :

It has three control signals ALE, RD (Active low) and WR (Active low) and three status
signals IO/M(Active low), S0 and S1.

ALE is used for provide control signal to synchronize the components of

microprocessor and timing for instruction to perform the operation.

RD (Active low) and WR (Active low) are used to indicate whether the operation is
reading the data from memory or writing the data nto memory respectively.

IO/M(Active low) is used to indicate whether the operation is belongs to the memory or
peripherals.

2.Draw the signal (pin diagram) configuration of 8085 and explain the purpose of
each signals. (Dec-2012)

8085 is a 40 pin IC, DIP package. The signals from the pins can be grouped as follows
 Power supply and clock signals
 Address bus
 Data bus
 Control and status signals
 Interrupts and externally initiated signals
 Serial I/O ports
 Direct Memory Access (DMA):
