Topic Parts of a Flower


Grade Level Grade 5
Time Allotment 50 minutes
Learning Describe the reproductive parts in plants and their
Competency functions (S5LT-IIf-6)
Objectives
At the end of the session, students should be able to:
1. Identify the parts of a flower
2. Describe the functions of each part of a flower
3. Appreciate the importance of flowers

ELICIT
Show pictures of different animals and let the learners identify whether they are
viviparous or oviparous.
ENGAGE
Show pictures of a human, an animal, and a plant. Lead to learners to infer that
the next lesson will be about the reproductive parts of the plant. Let them answer
the following questions:
 How do plants reproduce?
 Which part of the plant is used in reproduction?
 What are the different parts of a flower?
EXPLORE
1. Divide the class into five (5) groups. Show a picture of the different parts of a
flower. Give each group ample time to complete the worksheet that shows the
functions of each part.
2. Process the answers of each group after the reporting/presentation of outputs.
Check misconceptions if they arise.
EXPLAIN
1. Present a video clip, summarizing the different parts of a flower and their
function.

2. Ask the learners to answer the following questions.

 What are their functions?
ELABORATE
1. Present this situation to the learners.
You saw a group of boys and girls picking flowers in the park. They made fun

 What would you tell them?
 Why are flowers important to plants?
