Introduction
Some people find public speaking to be a challenging undertaking. The majority of these
individuals claimed to experience anxiety whenever they are in front of an audience. Speech
anxiety is the precise name for this issue. Speech anxiety is defined as a situation in which a
speaker feels uneasy before or during a presentation. The aforementioned problem may
become apparent in a classroom setting when participation is essential. Classroom participation
is significant. This allows teachers to evaluate the pupils' learning. Even though it is a simple
task, people who have speech anxiety could find it challenging to participate.
Research on language anxiety cases among college students of education was
conducted in the Philippines by Rhodora R. Jugo. The study examined how students' English
language learning and proficiency are impacted by the level and sources of the aforementioned
anxiety among education faculty members. The analysis came to the conclusion that speaking
and writing tasks, corrections, interpersonal communication using English as the primary
language, a pessimistic outlook, and a lack of understanding are the main causes of
anxiousness. (Jugo, 2020).
A study focusing on the issue of speech anxiety among students in Africa. The purpose
of this study was to determine whether or not teachers can help students who are experiencing
speech-related anxiety. Additionally, the study's goal was to determine how the participants'
academic and professional lives were affected by the anxiety in question. The study found out
that the students being conscious during participation in fear of being judged, which the
researcher has said may affect their professional and academic performance. The researchers
also discovered that a teacher's primary responsibility should be to foster a pleasant and
welcoming atmosphere that would encourage students to speak up (Kankam & Boateng, 2017).
People who get nervous while speaking in front of an audience often try to stay out of
circumstances where they have to perform, but when they do, they experience severe distress
and anxiety. According to Horwitz (2001), students that are more anxious have lower levels of
performance. These issues can serve as roadblocks to reaching one's goals, which may include
both personal and professional objectives; as a result, speakers must hone their public speaking
abilities to help them gain confidence.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the performance level of the Hinatuan
National Comprehensive High School students who have speech anxiety and to identify any
potential remedies that would aid in lowering the students' anxiety. This study also explains the
causes of students' fears of public speaking and problems caused by their fear. It includes the
detailed description of the results and findings of the research.
