Directions:
1. Log onto a computer and navigate to this web page: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/molecule-
shapes/latest/molecule-shapes_en.html or use the PHET application.
2. Click MODEL.
3. Toggle the check boxes for: MOLECULE GEOMETRY, ELECTRON GEOMETRY, and SHOW BOND ANGLE.
Your task is to build molecules with varying numbers of DOMAINS.
A DOMAIN is a group of electrons attached to a central atom. Single bonds, double bonds and triple bonds are each
a single domain. Also, lone pairs are a domain.
For each molecule, note its MOLECULAR GEOMETRY, ELECTRON GEOMETRY, and its BOND ANGLE. Also, take a
screenshot of the built molecule. The molecule can be rotated for easier viewing. Once you’ve completed each
section, you’ll be asked to draw some conclusions.
