 Notices
﹡Personnel on site shall carefully read this Operating Manual.
﹡Before loading or unloading operation, the worm or worm gear
reducer of agitator shall be injected with designated lubricating oil to
the oil level required.
﹡Before loading operation of agitator, the rotating direction of agitator
shall be determined.
﹡The agitator shall be hoisted horizontally during site installation. The
ropes shall be firmly fixed to prevent agitator from falling or causing
injury.
﹡In the process of installing mixing wave wheel on actuating plate of
reducer output shaft, the power line of motor is not allowed to energize,
otherwise, the sudden operation of motor will cause injury to the
installation personnel in the tank.

1. Overview
JB/W series agitator is an important part of solid control system of mud tank, which is mainly
used in agitating and blending drilling fluid so as to control the depositions of solid particles in
its tank cycling system and to keep the mud property of circulation stable and mixture uniform.
This device has some major features as follows:
a) The reducer adopts worm and gear (see Fig. 4), with tight structure, good meshing
performance and reliable work.
b) The reducer combines with explosion-proof motor, which is suit for rough operation
condition in field.
c) The explosion-proof motor and reducer input shaft are directly connected through flexible
coupling instead of belt, so the rotation speed of the agitating impeller is constant.
d) The strong agitation, broad conformance and overload-free current at starting are provided.
e) The horizontal explosion-proof motor is easy for installation, adjustment and replacement.
The agitator of our company consists of single impeller (see Fig. 1) and two impellers (see
Fig. 2), and both of them include such eight models as JB/W2.2, JB/W3, JB/W5.5, JB/W7.5,
JB/W11, JB/W15, JB/W18.5 and JB/W22. If users have no special requirements, the
single-impeller agitator is no more than 2.4m deep, and the double-impeller agitator is more
than 2.4m deep. User shall tell the depth of tank (from installation surface to the inner bottom
plate)，power and other requirements to us at ordering to provide better service for you.

3. Structure and Operating Principle
The agitator is composed of explosion-proof motor, reducer, agitating impeller, base, flexible
coupling and rigid coupling. Both explosion-proof motor and reducer are mounted on the base. The
shaft extension side of the explosion-proof motor is connected with the input shaft (see Fig. 3) of
the reducer through the flexible coupling. The agitating impeller is connected with the output shaft
coupling (see Fig. 3) of the reducer through rigid coupling.
The agitating impeller, an important working part of the agitator, is composed of shaft, vane
connection panel and vane which are welded together. When the explosion-proof motor starts up,
the reducer input shaft is driven by flexible coupling to rotate. The explosion-proof motor comes
out from the output shaft of reducer after slowing down speed and drives the agitating impeller to
rotate. When the agitating impeller contacts with drilling fluid and makes it move in vortex, thus,
the drilling fluid will not be deposited in solid phase to achieve uniform mixing and consistent
density. The vane connection panel among vanes is able to prevent the solid particles of mud after
shutdown from depositing below impeller. Thus, the resistance to vane from solid particles will be
reduced at startup again, and the motor burning due to overloading may be avoided.

4. Installation and Commissioning
4.1. Installation

4.1.1 As shown in Fig. 5, stably place the skid assembly (1) of agitator on the designated position
on the surface of tank. Weld the four seats with thread hole of M16 on the tank，after centralizing

and tighten the fixed bolts of base.
4.1.2 As shown in Fig. 6, firmly connect the agitating impeller (2) with the output end of reducer by
bolts (see Table 2 for specification), spring washers and nuts at. Otherwise, the impellerl will deflect,
the abrasion of worm and gear of reducer will be increased, and the bearings will be damaged.
Note: The agitator is prohibited to operate during the installation of the agitating impeller. At
this moment, the power shall be cut off to avoid injury from vane to the operator in tank.

4.1.3 If necessary，the stabilizer (3) is installed in accordance with the methods as following: ring
the stabilizer onto the arm end of agitating shaft，and firmly weld the three supporting rods of
stabilizer on the bottom plate of tank after alignment (see Fig. 7) (rotate the impeller by hand, the
gaps between shaft and sleeve of stabilizer shall be equal as far as possible at four positions.). If the
bottom plate of mud tank is inclined, the correction block shall be padded between the supporting
rod of stabilizer and the inclined bottom plate to make the shaft and sleeve in a centerline.

4.2 Commissioning
4.2.1 Preparation of startup
4.2.1.1 As shown in Fig. 8, remove the fill plug on the top of reducer, and then inject the lubricating
oil listed in Table 4 to reducer through this oil fill hole (oil level is in the visible range above the oil
level gauge center (red point), see Table 3 for oil injection volume), finally, tighten the fill plug.

4.2.1.2 Connect the power line of motor, and jog the starting button to observe whether the rotation
direction of shaft is correct, otherwise, exchange the connecting position of wire. In the view of
motor end, the shaft rotates in clockwise direction, which accord with the indication on the shield
(Looking down the agitator, the impeller rotates in clockwise direction), see Fig. 9.

4.2.2 Startup
Power on after completing all preparations, and the continuous operation shall be no less than
90min. Note: Power off in case of any abnormity during operation.
4.2.3 Shutdown
Record all inspection items as per the requirements in Table 5, and power off upon completion.

5. Operation and Maintenance
5.1 The specified lubricating oil shall be injected into the reducer before use (see 4.2.1.1). After the
first 100h operation, the inside reducer shall be washed and provided with new lubricating oil;
hereafter, the lubricating oil shall be replaced every 2500h.
5.2 In the early stage, very few reducers may generate a minor and rhythmic “bang clang” sound,
which has no impact on operation of reducer as the gear and worm is in breaking-in period. The
sound will disappear automatically after a period of time.
5.3 During operation, the temperature in reducer of agitator is required to be no more than 95℃. As
long as this temperature will not rise, the agitator can continue to use.
5.4 The connection of coupling shall be inspected regularly. The nuts shall be tightened if the pins
are loose, and the elastic sheath shall be replaced if it is deformed or aged.
5.5 When the agitator is running, the operator and related workers shall pay attention to safety, such
as the hands are not allowed to touch the rotating parts.
6. Trouble shooting
The agitator will inevitably lead to failure during operation. To smoothly eliminate faults, the user is
capable of taking associated troubleshooting measures for the common faults listed in Table 6.
