Quirino is a landlocked province in the Philippines located in the Cagayan
Valley Region in Luzon. Its capital is Cabarroguis. Quirino, dubbed as the
“Forest Heartland of Cagayan Valley”, was created in 1971 and named
after former President Elpidio Quirino, the 6th President of the Philippines.
The province is known for its rugged topography, which makes it a
beautiful paradise for outdoor-loving travelers.
Quirino is famous and known for its natural attractions and water
adventures.
Quirino occupies the southeastern section of the Cagayan Valley region in
northeastern portion of Luzon.
A. PORTS OF ACCESS
There are several ways to get to Quirino, the most common being from
Manila:

Travel by land
If you are coming from Metro Manila, land transportation is the usual
means. That is equivalent to around 7-8 hours of travel. Ride from any bus
going to Isabela or Cagayan, then alight at Cordon or Santiago in Isabela.
After that, ride a van going to Maddela. If you plan to reach the farthest
towns, you need to ride jeepneys or rent a private car.

Travel by air
If you prefer a shorter travel time, book a flight from Manila to Cauayan.
After arrival, ride a van or rent a private vehicle. Around 1-2 hours leads
you to the province. Note, however, that flights from Manila to Cauayan
and vice versa are limited. Always check your airline schedules to maximize
your vacation.

Quirino Watersports Complex
Another famous tourist destination
in Quirino Province is its watersports
complex where wakeboarding,
surfing, and indoor sports take
place. Festivals, events, and games
are held here. Do not miss the

Governor's Rapids
Ride a boat and explore the winding
tributary of the Cagayan River. A tour at
Governor’s Rapids is perfect during the
summer. Its sparkling emerald water is
inviting, while the stunning rock formations
alongside make an ideal backdrop to your
mandatory souvenir photographs.
The local guide also offers to visit a cave
along your river tour. Here, you can take a
dip in the cold waters of the pitch-black
cascade. For the more adventurous tourists,
you can try cliff jumping at around a 40 feet
drop.

monthlong Christmas variety fair
and one of the most-anticipated

Sports Complex in the capital
town of Cabarroguis, the fair
highlights the local craft, culture,
and tourist attractions of the
province’s six municipalities. It is
celebrated from December 1 – 31
of the year.

Panagdadapun Festival is an Ilocano
word that means assembly or the
gathering of every Quirinian. A highlight
of this annual celebration is the grand
parade which was enjoined by different
agencies found in the province together
with the convergence of all tribes thru
street dancing portraying the different
cultures and history of the province. It is
celebrated every month of September
which coincides with the Araw ng Quirino
Foundation every Municipality has its
festival which features its unique culture
and practices. It is celebrated every
September 6-10 of the year.

Ginnamuluan Festival
Encompasses all desirable,
admirable traits, characteristics,
and virtues of the Filipinos. It is
celebrated every June 19-21 of
the year at the town of
Cabarroguis.

Christian settlers like the

Nueva Vizcaya is a province of the Philippines located in the region of
Cagayan Valley Region in Luzon. Its capital is Bayombong. Nueva Vizcaya
is often referred to as lowland Baguio because of its pleasant climate.
The province has basically an agricultural economy with commerce,
trade, and industry contributing to its growth and development.
Vizcaya is derived from the word Biscay, the name of the province during
the Spanish colonial period.
Nueva Vizcaya is known as the Citrus Capital of the Philippines.
Nueva Vizcaya is located on northcentral part of Luzon.

There are several ways to get to Nueva Vizcaya, the most common
being from Manila:

Travel by air
Cebu Pacific flies from Manila Airport (MNL) to Tuguegarao twice daily.
Alternatively, Victory Liner operates a bus from Manila Pasay to
Tuguegarao twice daily.

Travel by land
Victory Liner has 2x daily trips between Cubao and Bambang, Nueva
Vizcaya. The bus departs from Cubao and Bambang at 6:00 AM and
4:00 PM daily.

The Saint Dominic Cathedral
Commonly referred to as the
Bayombong Cathedral, is an 18th-
century, Baroque church located at
Brgy. Salvacion, Bayombong, Nueva
Vizcaya, Philippines. The cathedral,
which is the seat of the Roman
Catholic Diocese of Bayombong, is
under the patronage of Saint
Dominic.

Dampol Bridge
This is the Dampol Bridge, a 202
year old bridge located in Dupax Del
Sur, Nueva Vizcaya, and was
declared by the National Museum as
a National Cultural Treasure of the

the Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in
Barangay Dopaj, Dupax del Sur,
Nueva Vizcaya.

Vizcaya. Balete Pass, also called
Dalton Pass, is a mountain pass that

A surprising find in Bayombong,
Mrs. Baker’s offers a mix of FIlipino
and international fares. I won’t
hesitate to say that their food taste
a lot better than some of the fancy
restaurants in Manila. They got a
homey ambiance and the service is
prompt and friendly. My favorites
were their Bagnet, Pepper Fish with
Grilled Vegetables, Mushroom and
Tofu and Chicken Kebab.

Well, Kaboodle Grill can give you that in a
restaurant setting. Don’t worry, you can
eat with your bare hands still if you
prefer. What’s important is all the goodies
on the huge banana leaves and eating

variant sets like the Pork Madness (Php
1199), Chicken Lovers (Php 1149), Seafood

Kalanguya Festival aims to
conserve, preserve and protect the
almost-forgotten Kalanguya
cultural heritage, especially to the
younger generation, amidst
modernization and high technology.
Slowly, the Kalanguyas is being

society’s progress and a feeling of
brotherhood now exists between the
two peoples. The festival also
brought enormous progress and
development in the town and its
people’s lives.

Citrus Festival is a thanksgiving
offering for the bountiful blessings of
the town. During the festivity, the
Ifugaos perform the “Culpi,” a way of
thanksgiving to Kabunian or Supreme
Being where a number of pigs and
chickens are offered. Ifugaos, garbed
in their native G-strings, bang their
gongs as they parade around the
village. Thousands of oranges are
also displayed in booths while some
are given for free to visitors.

Isabela is the largest province on the island of Luzon in land area. Its
capital is the city of Ilagan. The Province of Isabela is also known as ‘The
Queen Province of the North, ‘Top Corn Producer of the Philippines’, and
‘Rice Bowl of the North’. ​It is also known as one of the premier provinces
in the north and the most progressive in the country.
Isabela was named after Isabela II, the first queen regnant of Spain.
Isabela is famous or known for rice and corn production.
Isabela is located in the central section of the Cagayan Valley Region in
Luzon.
There is 1 outlying island surrounding the mainland of Isabela which is
under the jurisdiction of the province.

You can fly to an alternate airport (Cauayan or Tuguegarao),
however, you will have to take a taxi or van to get to Isabela.

The Aguinaldo's Shrine was built on
the 100th year anniversary of the
historical event which can be found
near President Emilio Aguinaldo's
house in Palanan, Isabela. This is

Honeymoon Island
This place is perfect for a couple or
a group of friends who love beach
getaways. The Honeymoon Island is
located at Divilacan, Isabela. It is
famous for its heart shape, hence
why it is called the “Honeymoon
Island”. There are plenty of pine
trees on this fine white sand beach
that faces the Pacific Ocean. The
Honeymoon Island is also the best
choice for camping and bonfire at
night; a place where you can relax
and have a lovely escapade.

Bonsai Forest
The Bonsai forest is one of the
attractions in the Northern Sierra
Madre and is located at Dinapigue.
This 5,000-hectare forest consists of
plants that are one foot to 7 feet

gives off a relaxing feeling to its
visitors.

An old baroque church unique for its
extensive use of bake clay both for wall
finishing and ornamentation. The St. Matias

being declared as both a National Cultural

A mixture of white sticky rice
dumplings and coconut strips are
what make up this warm dish. The
sticky rice dumplings are served in
thick coconut latik cream.

This Ilokano dish has a soup base
made of bagoong isda (fermented
fish paste) and mixed with local
vegetables and some grilled or fried
fish. It is also similar to Bulanglang
and Laswa, and the only difference

Whole glutinous rice that’s a bit
sweet and wrapped in small
cylinders made of banana leaves

Pagay Festival
is celebrated to observe the
founding anniversary of the town
of Alicia and highlight the town’s
production of Pagay in Ilocano
which means Palay.
The town celebrates the use of
"Gakit", the Gaddang word for
raft, by the tribes of Angadanan
as their mode of transport; Gakit
is used to transport passengers
and goods from one town to
another through the mighty
Cagayan River.

percent classified themselves as
Ilocanos. The next two prominent

Cagayán is a province of the Philippines in the Cagayan Valley Region in
the northeast of Luzon Island. Its capital is the city of Tuguegarao. The
Cagayan Valley is the largest region in the Philippines with regard to land
area. The Cagayan River, the country’s longest, runs through its center
and flows out to Luzon Strait in the north, in the town of Aparri, Cagayan.
The Babuyan and Batanes island groups that lie in the Luzon Strait belong
to the region.
Cagayan is a shortened term for “catagayan”, a place where the local
plant called “tagay” grows.
Cagayan is famous or known for milk candy, Callao Caves, and
Pinacanauan River.

delicacies Puto and Leche Flan. This
is a soft fluffly rice cake made from

dish is a mixture of miki, carabeef,

Chicharabao
This is Tuguegarao’s version of
Chicharon, a pork rind. Distinct
enough, this is not made of pork,
but of carabeef. This is lighter than
the usual chicharon. Made from cut
Carabao skin cooked in an
extremely hot cauldron,
Chicharabao is served deliciously in
garlic, onion and vinegar, or in hot
and spicy.
E. FESTIVALS AND SPECIAL EVENTSSambali Festival
The festivity is a religious and cultural
revival to commemorate the
Christianization of the Itawes region of
Cagayan. Activities include novenas,
beauty pageant, sports tournaments,
Lakbay Yaman Industry Tours, street
dancing and the famous cultural
presentations by indigenous groups. The
Sambali or Piat Sambali Festival is
celebrated every year in Piat, Cagayan
from June 23 to July 2. A spectacle of
color, form and movement and songs is
to be expected in this celebration, all
brought about centuries-old cultural
traditions.

ethnic group in Cagayan. Of the
total household population, 68.57
percent classified themselves as
Ilocanos. The next three

Itawit (8.63 percent), Ibanag (8.51

Batanes is an archipelagic province in the Philippines situated in the
Cagayan Valley Region. Its capital is Basco, Batanes is one of the most
beautiful provinces in the Philippines. It is also known as the “Home of the
Winds”. Batanes is the northernmost and smallest province in the country.
It encompasses ten chief islands and three of it are occupied.
Batanes is famous for its stone houses, scenic views, and Naidi Hills.
Batanes is located in the northernmost section of the country in Luzon.

There are only a few ways to get to Batanes, the most common being
from Manila:

You can fly to an alternate airport, however the cost will be
approximately the same, but travel time will be longer.

Is said to be the oldest stone house
existing in Batanes and is considered
a UNESCO Heritage Building.
Located in the town of San Jose de
Ivana in Batan Island, the structure
has remained intact over the years.

An old Spanish lamp post is located
in Mahatao municipality in Batan the
main island of Batanes the
northernmost archipelago province
of the Philippines situated in the
Cagayan Valley region.

Alapad Rock Formation


Alapad Rock Formation is an inclined
rock facing the Pacific Ocean and
was naturally carved by nature’s
elements. Since it is strategically
situated along the coastline of
Imnajbu in Batan Island, it was
formed out of the strong water
current and tectonic movements.

Basco Light House
Is a lighthouse in the town of Basco
in Batanes, the northernmost
province in the Philippines. Located
in Naidi Hills in Barangay San
Antonio, the lush green hills and the
open sea provide a beautiful
backdrop for the lighthouse. The
place can easily be reached by a 1.2-
km hike from the Port of Basco.

D. FOOD AND DELICACIES
Uved
It’s basically made of finely-grated
corn (which is found at the base of a
trunk of a banana plant) that’s
mixed with ground meat (beef or
pork), and minced fish. Afterward, it
is seasoned with onion, garlic, salt,
and pepper. This will be rolled into
balls or served as-is and can either
be with or without its broth.
D. FOOD AND DELICACIES
Vunes
This is a dish that my father used to
prepare a lot for our family and it’s
one of my favorites! This is made of
preserved gabi (taro) stalks which
could technically last for years.
As a typical Batanes food, the gabi
stalks are first soaked in water.
Afterward, it will be cut and minced
and then cooked together with pork
and patola (or sponge gourd).

Payi
Payi or lobsters are abundant in
Batanes, so a humongous one can
be easily bought for as cheap as
Php 150 (or $3)! Indeed you could
imagine my surprise when my
family and I moved out of Batanes
and I found out that my favorite
payi is ridiculously expensive in the
city.
E. FESTIVALS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Payuhan Festival
In the Ivatan laguage, “payuhan” stands
for cooperation which is truly evident in
this 5-day event every June. In this event,
a province-wide procession is done to
recall the route of evangelization.
Communities and schools conduct the
Ivatan Olympics to pay tribute to their
native game.

Palu-palo Festival
About Palo Palo Festival. Palo-Palo
Festival is situated in Basco, Batanes held
at 24th of July. It is one-of a-kind social
introduction of ious regions. The Festival
got its name from the palo-palo or sticks
that were utilized by the local ivatans to
fight with the Spanish and Dutch pioneer.

Kulay Festival
The five day celebration aims to promote
the preserved rich cultural heritage of
Batanes and introduce their locally
manufactured food products to local and
international tourist visiting their
province. Even the stage was decorated
with dried products such as fish.

The people of Batanes are called


Ivatan and share prehistoric
cultural and linguistic
commonalities with the Babuyan
on Babuyan Island and the Tao
people of Orchid Island.
