Mycology Apollon

Fungi are characterized by lacking chlorophyll, roots and stems. Superficial mycoses produce no cellular response in the host. Arthroconidia on the outside of hair and hyphae within hair is called ectothrix. Conidia are asexual spores directly formed from hyphae by fragmentation. SDA is the primary medium used for isolating and maintaining fungal cultures. Dermatophytes cause dermatophytosis infections of the skin, hair and nails. Dimorphic fungi can exist in both a mold-like and yeast-like form.
