Another form of a subjective test item is the problem solving or computational exam
question.
ganitong type of test na problem solving wherein it consisted of questions which we
required us to do a computation to find the best solution. Because this type of test is
aiming to assess areas of students' performance that are complex and quantitative,
using questioning which may have more than one correct answer or more ways to
express it.
With this, we all know that problem solving really uses our mental ability para magsolve
more on numbers ang problem solving at because of the problem solving it ensure to
develop our competencies include readiness that urge us to solve problems, using a
methodical approach which describe sa mga methods na gagamitin which is best
appropriate methods to solve a problem, teamwork ofcourse diba since more on
collaboration teaching approach na ang ginagamit na strategy ng mga teacher for the
students working collaboratively with their classmates in order to find the answer, astute
problem analysis which makes us to be a good problem solver, and innovative thinking
wherein it develop our ability to come up with new ideas to problems. It’s makes us to
be creative and flexible. When students use critical thinking for example in math, they
not only know how to solve a problem, but they also understand why the solution works.
Likewise, students use critical thinking when they determine the best strategy for solving
a problem.
I agreed with this, because more on sa nakikita naman natin today ay ang problem
solving format is presented in real life situation because I believe learners construct
their own understanding by building on their previous knowledge and experiences,
problems may include situations that provide learners with contextualised, allowing
them to draw on existing knowledge to understand the problem, collect information from
various sources and after that they resolve the problem. So during this process, it
allows our students to develop deep understanding and explain the processes used to
arrive at solutions.
So I know some of u here is nakaexperience na ng ganitong situation where the
teachers give a perfect points sa atin if correct yung ating solution as well as our
working procedures o yung sinasabi natin computational processess, then some of
teachers naman have a grace for their students kase diba there is situation naman na
correct yung ating solution but hindi naman natin nailagay yung working procedure or
hindi organized yung ating procedure which we invalidate the format na binigay ni
teacher, so si teacher naman natin ay magbibigay ng chance for the effort din naman ng
bata magsolve then the teacher will give a points pa din pero ½ or ¼ na ng perfect
points nung problem solving na iyun which makes students get a partial points but not a
perfect points for their solving problems.
1. Here as a teacher we should consider to give an understandable solving
problems wherein we should be give an short explanation kung ano ba yung
inaidentify ng problem. For example…
2. As i understand here is that we teachers is need nating maging extra careful sa
For ex…
3. Ayan, here dito na papasok yung paggagawa natin ng solving problems which
we teachers required to include the directions in the last part of solving problems
question yung statement na Show your work to receive full or partial credit. Or in other
words na we always encountered is Show your computations or solutions for 5/10/15 pts
soon and so forth. Kase dito it really measure if the students have learn the lessons
working procedures.
4. So in this part is that as a future teacher we need to remember that we should be
organize when we create a solving problems questions like as said here na it is okay na
paghiwalayin natin yung statement problem, then after is pwede nating ibullet yung mga
kanilang dapat sagutan which really lessen and shorten yung pagconsume ng time nila
Also,
we should always put nga the directions na Show your work for full or partial credit.for
the students to be aware kung gaano daw makakapekto yung incorrect answer nila sa
dahil nga if they have mistake in computational steps where the teacher decide if they
will be given a full or partial pts for their answers which really have a big impact for their
overall scores in their taking test.
5. For this one, as I understand we should put in our problem solving questions the figures
which real object/ things, conditions which really affect the situations or dito na papasok
yung susupport sa problems and situations which related to real life which create a
realistic problem. For example…
6. As a teacher, when we make a solving problems questions we should always
remember and consider that the question should evoke or draw out a response,
answer, or fact from our students in reaction to their own actions or
questions which really consisted of solution and work procedures because that’s the
goal of solving problems type of test.
7. For the last suggestion, as I understand this one, as Sir Lino said to us we should take
our created test for us to know nga kung madali ba ang solving problems question na ito
which our student can be able to compute this in exact designated time. Also, as I
understand nga this one is that we should prepared double check key answers wherein
na double na nga kung tama ba yung ating key answers then after that is may
of every solving problem items given.
Advantages
1. So here, I want to share to everyone my experiences when I was in junior high school I
can say that time is wala talaga akong balak matuto before sa math since mostly naman
yung mga type of test that time is more on multiple choice kaya matic na nagguguess
nalang ako sabi nga ni Sir the mini maynimo techniques but when I encountered the
problem solving type of test in math especially sa Genmath in senior high I was
devastated that time it’s like end of the world na for me and it was the first monthly exam
kaya nangangapa pa ako, then yun nga sa last part ng type of test the problem solving
Kaya lesson learned ko about that is inaral ko at inintindi
ko ang mga lessons especially the working procedures then after that nakapasa naman
ako sa 2nd monthly exam since nakapa ko na ang problem solving type of test which
really advantages sa pagmemeasure in our learnings.
2. That’s true because sa subjective type of test like problem solving is kahit magbigay lang
tayo ng mga solving problems is validate na yun unlike sa objective type of test is
required to have question or problem, and the response alternatives which consists of
the correct answers and distractors.
3. I believe that this problem solving test type of test is the best choice for the teachers if
they want to achieve their learning objectives or they want to measure if the learning
objectives is naattain ng mga bata because the problem solving makikita angtruly
coverage the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain objectives.
4. As I understand po here, Just like the third bullet here in the advantages it can really
also measure the wide range of contents or lessons that the teacher done to teach and
can measure a lot of learning objectives. For example, the teacher will give a problem
solving type of test then doon sa test niya is she decided na magbigay ng 10 solving
problems then every problems is talking about the 5 lessons na natackled na ng teacher
and we all know that every lesson na ito is may katumbas na learning objectives.
Limitations
1. As I shared my experiences kanina is nakakarelate talaga ako dito kase it is a problem
solving type of test wherein kapag d mo talaga naintindihan or inaral ang mga lessons
with working procedures is there’s a high possibility na makakuha ng mababang score
because we can’t be sure sa consistency ng mga scores ng mga bata is here sa
problem solving they more got a low score when they take again the same question
kase they more likely to forgot the working procedures nga.
2. Again, yung line na Sir na we should not forget is “kapag sa subjective type of test
checking.” That’s really true. Since as a teacher responsibility din natin magbigay ng full
or partial credit sa mga sagot ng mga bata kaya that the downside of problem solving.
3. So basically, hindi siya katulad ng objective type of test na it can really measure the
student achievement kase sa subjective especially sa problem solving is really unfair
kase there’s a partial credit nga which is mas nahihirapan ang mga teachers na
magscore kung katanggap tanggap ba yun or hindi and that’s really not measure the
