Q.1) The area of a circle is proportional to the square of its

radius. A small circle of radius 3 cm is drawn within a larger
circle of radius 5 cm. Find the ratio of the area of the
annular zone to the area of the larger circle. (Area of the
annular zone is the difference between the area of the
larger circle and that of the smaller circle).
a) 9 : 16
b) 9 : 25
c) 16 : 25
d) 16 : 27...

Ans: C
Q.2) A 175 m long train, running at the speed of 126 km/hr,
crosses a bus moving in opposite direction in 4 seconds. If
they were to move in the same direction, the time taken by
the train to overtake the bus would be 10 seconds. The
length of the bus is approximately –
a) 35 m
b) 15 m
c) 20 m
d) 25 m

Ans: D

Sample
A train running at the speed of 108 kmph crosses a
signalpole in 19 seconds. What is the length of the train?
a) 570 metres
b) 550 metres
c) 520 metres
d) 590 metres
Ans: A
Explanation:
Speed of train = 108 kmph

To convert kmph into m/s, we multiply speed in kmph by

(5/18)

So, Speed = 108 × (5/18) m/s

=6×5
= 30 m/s

If a train crosses a signal pole, its length is equal to the

distance travelled by train to cross the signal pole.

We know that, Distance = speed × time

So,
Length of train = 30 × 19

= 570 meters
