chief executive Truman Bradley said. "The mobile application is proof of a concept for bigger and better things now that F1 has become a recognised Apple iOS developer. The team is 100 per cent local, who are dedicated to developing this new and ever expanding market of Apple mobile phones and products, especially the iPad. "We hope the information we are supplying to overseas visitors is relevant and we shall continue to develop the app and enhance its capabilities. "I personally would like to thank the team at F1 Mobile for the long hours and ever increasing requirements that had to be fulfilled to complete this project. "I would also like to encourage all who have Apple devices to try out the app and give us any feedback on helpdesk@f1.com.fj "F1 Mobile shall also be contacting any interested businesses in the coming future for potential relationships to enhance the product and also advertise what we have to offer in Fiji." Chief operations officer Roneal Ravi Murti, whose timeless effort was given into driving the whole project and getting it to the finish line, was impressed with the team. "It was a difficult and demanding project, especially when it came to keeping the staff on track with deadlines, since they had other on-going projects to work on. "This was our first app and it was a stepping stone since it was difficult, but it was nice to see what our locals can achieve through determination and opportunity given by a company such as F1 Mobile Solutions. "The team did a great job and now we look forward to developing more sophisticated apps in the future." Programmer Joe Romanu and app graphics designer Damien Whippy were responsible for the hard work and extra hours to make this app a successful one. "This was our first app and we took it as a challenge because we are looking to create more intelligent and interactive phone apps, not only for iPhone but for other smart phones," said Mr Romanu. Mr Whippy said: "One of the major difficulties for us was making the app simple. There is so much information that we could have provided but it drastically reduces the attention time that we command from the user. So we decided to use the KISS principle, together with 'Agile' programming methodology. We asked ourselves basic questions that tourists would ask about Fiji. This is how we got the 'Where to Eat, Where to Stay, maps, and About Fiji' menu system. "This app is a good first attempt and we will improve and update in the coming months. I personally feel that if F1 Mobile Solutions didn't think outside the box and allow us to foray into the unknown; we wouldn't have gotten the results that we did. The end result, I feel, is well worth the effort, time and money put in by the company."

Tonga's former Prime Minister Fred Sevele has denied allegations of corruption.
Former Tongan Prime Minister Fred Sevele has denied allegations of corruption in connection with the Nukualofa Redevelopment Fund. Melino Maka was one of the authors of a government commissioned report into the Nukualofa fund. Mr Maka says he and his business partner were sacked for not coming up with the answers the government wanted about the money missing from the fund. He claimed to have been told that the former Prime Minister, Fred Sevele, might have been involved. Dr Sevele rejects the charge, telling the reporter that the funds to rebuild Nukualofa in the wake of rioting and looting in 2006 have been handled professionally and transparently. "We never touched any of the money. To have these suggestions that there is money missing is just mind boggling."

"But the archaeological research enables them to see perhaps their culture in a world context, rather than just a Pacific context, because there is exciting information about the way that the Pacific Islands were settled
and the development of big monuments, great stone mounds and so on. "Archaeologists everywhere else in the world are interested in how people settled the Pacific and how they develop their distinctive modern cultures and this parallels the traditions and stories that the people themselves have always had."

mUmBai Police Fine 31 For 'dirty dancinG'
thirty-one young people have been fined for "indecent" dancing in india's entertainment capital, mumbai. Senior officer Mahesh Patil told the newspaper that the individuals were fined 1200 rupees ($24) each after a raid on a nightclub in the northern suburb of Malad last Saturday night. "Ten of the 31 offenders were girls. They were dancing vulgarly in the converted disco, which is considered to be a public place," he was quoted as saying, without elaborating. The raid, in which 77 people including diners were detained altogether, was initially for playing music without a licence, but police decided to act after finding the dancing "objectionable", the daily added. News of the raid quickly led to a protest group, Stop Moral Policing in Mumbai, being set up on the social networking site Facebook, calling for the police, certain political parties and individuals to "stop defining indecency". As well as the Malad incident, it cited the reported arrests of young people holding hands in a western Mumbai suburb in 2007. The incident comes after the state government of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital, raised the minimum age for buying and consuming beer from 18 to 21 and spirits from 21 to 25 to combat problem drinking. The move sparked outrage among young people, who are the mainstay of Mumbai's vibrant nightlife, which is already curtailed by early closing times. The state has previously tried to close dance bars where female performers dance to Bollywood tunes branding them dens of iniquity and fronts for prostitution and the criminal underworld. But the order was overturned, with a court stating that it violated sections of the Indian constitution guaranteeing "fundamental rights of livelihood".

The wealth should be used in public interest, said V.R. Krishna Iyer, a retired Supreme Court judge. The treasure should be handed over to a national trust and spent for the welfare of the poor. Others oppose any move that will give the government control over the billions. There is an opinion that it should be handed over to the government for developmental purposes. I am aghast at this suggestion, said Prof. K.N. Panikkar, a renowned historian, who also hails from Kerala. Panikkar said the treasures were Keralas legacy and should be preserved in a museum. Many of the objects may have antique value while others may have religious importance, he told reporters. These should be preserved in a museum with modern security arrangements. Kerala is a relatively prosperous region, which gained international acclaim as the first state in India to obtain 100 percent literacy. But it lags in industrial growth, forcing hundreds of thousands of its educated youth to go abroad in search of employment. The Supreme Court ordered the inspection of the vaults at the temple, which is controlled by the royal family of the former kingdom of Travancore, after a lawyer petitioned for the state government to take over the temple, citing inadequate security. On Wednesday, Indias top court Wednesday ordered that a curator be appointed to protect and preserve the vast treasures, and directed that the entire trove
be photographed and filmed. The Supreme Court is expected give its orders on forcing open the remaining vault on Friday as its steel-framed doors will have to be cut open. The royal family had petitioned the court against the inspection but hasnt commented on the revelations since the vaults were opened.

escaped snake halts Bullet train
A Japanese bullet train has been forced to stop after a large snake was spotted curled up on a passengers seat. The one-meter long red and black snake was spotted by passengers on a bullet train hurtling between Osaka and Kyoto. The train was brought to a stop at the next station and staff from an animal shelter was called in to capture it. It is believed the reptile was a nonvenomous Honduran milk snake brought onto the train by its owner and which later escaped from its cage. The bullet train operator says only small birds or fish kept in containers can be brought onto train cars.

harrods sale girl quits joB after she was forced to wear make-up
a sale assistant in uk has claimed that she was hounded out of her job at harrods because she refused to wear make-up. Melanie Stark who worked for five years at the Knightsbridge department store resigned after she was twice sent home for refusing to comply with its strict dress code. She said that she was even offered a cosmetics workshop and was told: You can see what you look like with makeup. I was appalled. It was insulting. Basically, it was implying it would be an improvement. I dont understand how they think it is OK to say that, the reporter quoted her as saying. I know what I look like with make-up. I have used it, though never at work. But I just could not see how, in this day and age, Harrods could take away my right to choose to wear it or not, she added. A copy of a 13-page dress code was handed to Stark when she joined the HMV department in Harrods at the age of 19. She said that she complied with all other aspects of the dress code and Harrods did not seek to enforce the make-up regulations until last August when senior managers sent her home after a floor walk. On another occasion, she was made to work in a stockroom where customers could not see her. She also claimed that she was summoned to a meeting with her floor manager and was asked to wear make-up or you leave. Stark was briefly transferred to HMVs store in Bayswater, West London, while a resolution was sought, but she had already decided to resign.

snorer tom cruise snoozes in snoratorium so wife katie can sleep well
hollywood is witnessing a new trend of setting up snoratoriums in the homes to enable spouses of snorers to get a good night sleep. Following suit, 49-year-old snorer Tom Cruise has converted one of his guest bedrooms into a sound proof refuge, so that wife Katie Holmes can get a sound sleep. The snoratorium in Cruises 20 million pounds Hollywood home is towards the back of the property, close to the bedroom he normally shares with wife Holmes, 32 and their five-year-old daughter Suri. Whoever uses the snoring room cannot be heard outside the locked door. Its very small, comfortable and dark, maybe a former nursery, the Daily Mail quoted a visitor as saying. It was reported that shortly after their marriage; Holmes stopped sleeping in the same room as Cruise because of his snoring. Snoratoriums are proving popular among ageing action heroes who are now in or reaching their 40s. Henceforth, rather than be relegated to the sofa, celebrities are creating padded and atmospherically controlled rooms where they can snore away undisturbed.
Traditional Hindu wedding ceremonies can last for days and involve much ritual in Sanskrit which may be understood only by the priest conducting the service. This ceremony is considerably shorter and is intended to be understandable even to a non-Indian audience, making it suitable for intercultural or mixed Hindu/non-Hindu marriages. The priest in this ceremony need not be formally trained as a Hindu priest. He or she should be familiar with Hindu weddings and comfortable acting as a master of ceremonies, guiding the participants through their parts and explaining the meaning of the service to

Youve heard the statistics: Most people, who diet, regain the weight they lost, and then some, when they end their diets. Well, youre not a statistic and you can avoid becoming one if you spend 30 minutes, four days a week, cycling, walking, or water jogging during and after your diet. Thats because the low-intensity exercise can prevent the decrease in metabolism and fat burning that often occurs during and after a diet.
watermelon, apart from being rich in nutrients, has been found to lower prehypertension, a precursor to cardio diseases. Extracts of watermelon, given daily for six weeks, lowered blood pressure in a group of pre-hypertensive men and women aged between 51 and 57 years. Watermelon is the richest edible natural source of L-citrulline, which is closely related to L-arginine, the amino acid required for the formation of nitric oxide essential to regulate blood pressure. Consuming L-arginine as a dietary supplement isnt an option as it can cause nausea, gastrointestinal tract discomfort, and diarrhoea. Consuming watermelon caused no such problems, study participants reported. Watermelon is also abundant in vitamin A, lycopene, a powerful antioxidant.

slave lake fires canadas 2nd costliest disaster
Insured damages from the Slave Lake, Alta., fires have hit $700 million so far, making it the second costliest disaster in Canadian history, the Insurance Bureau of Canada said Tuesday. Wildfires ripped through the community 280 kilometers north of Edmonton on May 15, destroying one-third of the town. Only the ice storm that hit Quebec and Ontario in 1998 caused more damage $1.8 billion. Several thousand claims have been filed so far for homes, cars and businesses that were damaged in Slave Lake. The scale of the destruction to homes and property is incredible, said Doug Noble, Insurance Bureau of Canada vice-president for Alberta and the North, in a news release. Its devastating for those who have been affected. Prince William and his wife Kate visited Slave Lake on Wednesday and met with firefighters and people who lost their homes in the fires.

Canada Post expects the remaining backlog of letter mail to be cleared by the end of next week and has offered up overtime options to most of its workforce to help get back to par. The Crown Corporation is behind by about 40 million pieces of letter mail, but has stepped up production at its facilities to clear the backlog as quickly as possible. Canada Post spokeswoman Anick Losier said this time of year; about 18 million pieces of letter mail are sorted and distributed each day. To clear the delays left by the recent labour dispute, however, about 27 million pieces are now circulated daily, she said. What we can say confidently is that the backlog in letters will be taken care of by the end of next week, Losier said, adding that once the letter mail surplus is taken care of, regular standards for delivery time can then be the focus. The Crown Corporation, which had been offering overtime for staff at its processing plants and depots, on Tuesday started making voluntary overtime available for its mail carriers. Losier said Wednesday that about 70 per cent of letter carriers have signed up to work an additional hour at the start of their shift to work toward clearing the backlog.

EFFECTS oF CHiLD ABUSE AND NEgLECT Abused children cannot express emotions safely. As a result, the emotions get stuffed down, coming out in unexpected ways. Adult survivors of child abuse can struggle with unexplained anxiety, depression or anger. They may turn to alcohol or drugs to numb out the painful feelings. TyPES oF CHiLD ABUSE There are several types of child abuse, but the core element that ties them together is the emotional effect on the child. Children need predictability, structure, clear boundaries and the knowledge that their parents are looking out for their safety. Abused children cannot predict how their parents will act. Their world is an unpredictable and a frightening place with no rules. Whether the abuse is a slap, a harsh comment, stony silence or not knowing if there will be dinner on the table tonight, the end result is a child that feel unsafe, uncared for and alone. Emotional child abuse
it be adequate food, clothing, hygiene, or supervision. Child neglect is not always easy to spot. Sometimes, a parent might become physically or mentally unable to care for a child, such as with a serious injury, untreated depression or anxiety. Other times, alcohol or drug abuse may seriously impair judgment and the ability to keep a child safe. Older children might not show outward signs of neglect, becoming used to presenting a competent face to the outside world and even taking on the role of the parent. But at the end of the day, neglected children are not getting their physical and emotional needs met. Physical child abuse
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me? Contrary to this old saying, emotional abuse can severely damage a childs mental health or social development, leaving lifelong psychological scars. Examples of emotional child abuse include: humiliating a child comparisons to others worthless, bad, or a mistake. punishment, giving him or her the silent treatment. no hugs, kisses, or other signs of affection. abuse of others, whether it be the abuse of a parent, a sibling or even a pet. Child neglect Child neglect a very common type of child abuse is a pattern of failing to provide for a childs basic needs, whether
Physical abuse involves physical harm or injury to the child. It may be the result of a deliberate attempt to hurt the child but not always. It can also result from severe discipline, such as using a belt on a child or physical punishment that is inappropriate to the childs age or physical condition. Many physically abusive parents and caregivers insist that their actions are simply forms of disciplineways to make children learn to behave. But there is a big difference between using physical punishment to discipline and physical abuse. The point of disciplining children is to teach them right from wrong, not to make them live in fear. In physical abuse, unlike physical forms of discipline the following elements are present: The child never knows what is going to set the parent off. There are no clear boundaries or rules. The child is constantly walking on eggshells, never sure what behavior will trigger a physical assault.

GURU PURNIMA
guru Puja Guru means elder or big and Puja stands for praying, please give respect. In India guru Puja is a big Festival for all institutions which are connected with culture. Every year Guru Puja is celebrated on full moon day of Saawan month according to Hindu calendar. Saawan stands for rainy season. It is the day when students come with their feeling and present whatever they can for their teacher. In other words we can say that it is teachers day in India.
Mythological importance of guru Puja Guru or the teacher is the most important person in any ones life. Mother is the then he has to learn about the world, he goes to school where he comes across the person who teaches him how to live and understand this world. For anyone a teacher is an ideal character. In Indian most respected and important documents Vedas written gurur brhamma gurur vishnu gurur devo maheshwara
gurur sakshat par brhamma tasmai shri guruve namaha Means Guru is the creator, Guru is the holder, and Guru is the destroyer. On earth Guru is the real God whom we can see, that is why O Guru we pray to you. Guru is the eldest and the wisest on this earth as he light the path to meet God. As per Hindu mythology God expresses his creation through Brahma. He holds the creation as Vishnu and destroys the creation through Mahesh or Shiva. He further creates daemons that control all the bad characters and Devta who controls all the good characters for the mankind. All the daemons or Devta have their Guru who always guides them what to do right. Name of the Guru of the Devta is The Jupiter. The birthday of the Jupiter is celebrated as Guru Puja. On that day all the Devta come to him and get his blessings. They tied Kalava a special red thread, which is the symbol of energy, strength and bond between two people. Guru Jupiter preys to God to protect them and bless them with all the prosperity. Historical importance In ancient India schools were called Ashram or Gurukul, which were always made far away from cities and students were trained to live very hard lives. Ashrams were a joint responsibility of the society. All the students back to their homes to help their parents in harvest and other home affairs. They come back to their Ashrams before the rainy
season with their one-year food, clothes and other requirements and gifts for the teacher as the symbol of respect from the society to the Ashram. This day the study session starts, with the prayer of Goddess Saraswati (Goddess of knowledge and intelligence). This day the entire instrument, books, material used in the process of education is cleaned and put in regular manner. The Ashram is cleaned and decorated. In the early morning Puja and other rituals start. All the students and teacher gather on the place where usually they study.

MoRE Australians are dying in hospital with little say about how they spend their final days, the nations peak palliative care body says. Palliative Care Australia (PCA) called on state and federal governments to do more to ensure those with terminal illnesses have a say in how they die. PCA said a survey had found that despite most people preferring to die at home, the number able to do so had dropped to just 16 per cent in the past 50 years. Twenty per cent died in hospices, 10 per cent in nursing homes and the remainder in hospitals. consensus statement, the PCAs president Dr Scott Blackwell said many terminally ill people were not aware of the services available to them at the end of their lives. We want people to have a say in how they die, and to understand the support available for them, he said. This statement outlines what we need to work towards to ensure a future where all Australians are well informed and able to make good end of life choices and have access to quality palliative care wherever and whenever they need it. The PCA statement lists eight priority areas, including for all Australians to have reasonable access and resources to support them to die in the location of their choice. It calls for a single common law on advance age care planning to be adopted across Australia and for all Australians to be given advice about dying and death. CREDiT card providers will be banned from charging fees if a customer exceeds their credit limit under new laws passed through federal parliament. And banks and mortgage lenders must provide borrowers with a fact sheet from September to enable them to easily compare home loans. The new laws are designed to help people reduce the level of fees and interest they are charged and lower the risk of being given unrealistic credit cards limits they may be unable to pay. From July 1, 2012 it will be tougher for borrowers to exceed the credit limit on their card and credit providers will be prohibited from charging fees if a customer does exceed their credit limit, unless the customer has opted to have a higher buffer where they can be charged fees. It will be mandatory for credit providers to include in credit card application forms information about the annual percentage rate. Credit providers are also prohibited from making unsolicited offers to increase credit card limits. Under the new laws, when a person makes a payment on their credit card the repayment must go to the part of the balance of their credit card on which they are charged the highest interest rate, unless a consumer specifically elected to have a different payment arrangement. From September 1, home loan lenders must display on their website, and make available on request, a key facts sheet about the products they offer so consumers can compare the cost of different home loans. The government says the changes mean credit card providers face reduced revenue from charging higher fees if customers exceed their credit limit. Before the bill passed the Senate independent senator Nick Xenophon made a last-ditch attempt to save small home loan lenders from scrapping mortgage exit fees. His failed amendment called for only the big banks to be banned from slapping mortgage exit fees, allowing small lenders to continue to impose mortgage exit fees. Senator Xenophon told the Senate the governments blanket ban on exit fees would have a detrimental impact on smaller lenders who he predicted would be pushed out of the market. Unlike the big four, who can offset costs ... the smaller lenders need to be able to charge basic fees to keep them in the market, wwhe said.
