PART 2
Describe a thing you did to learn another language

Task
Learning is a good thing and learning a different language other than one’s native language, is always a
challenging matter. But, it surely can be done if one is willing to invest his or her time and take the
appropriate steps, just like I did when I learned the Chinese language.

Before that, I didn’t care much about learning the Chinese language until I started attending my
university. Before starting my university years, of course, I did learn about the English language, but
that’s because it was a part of our school curriculum, and I just didn’t have any other option but to
learn it. In other words, I needed to learn the English language because I needed to graduate from high
school, and now it's the main language when I go to university

But, when it came to learning the Chinese language, I went for it, purely because I had become
extremely fascinated with Chinese culture and customs, especially, after watching some family dramas
on some of our national television channels.

I became so interested in learning that language that I started to video record those Chinese drama
serials one episode after another to watch them again later on. But, a little later, I realized that just
watching drama serials wasn’t good enough to learn Chinese characters and their associated
pronunciations since the Chinese language uses two different kinds of scripts. So, I went ahead and
bought a good, but expensive, Chinese language book with English translation, of course. It was then
with the help of this Japanese language book and Chinese TV serials, that I began to understand many
of the expressions and important phrases of the Chinese language.

Anyway, I haven’t quite managed to master the Chinese language completely, it still feels really good
that I already know a bit more than just managing to have some basic conversation in that language,
and that too without attending a language school or anything like that. I also felt that we all should
learn at least one foreign language to appreciate the other cultures and customs of this world.
Part 3:
1. What difficulties do people face when learning a language?
2. Do you think language is important? Why?
3. Which is better, to study alone or to study in a group? Why?
4. What’s the best way to learn a language?

1. What difficulties do people face when learning a language?

A major difficulty that people can face when learning a new language is trying to converse in it with a
native speaker. Since these people can be afraid of making a mistake and coming off as rather foolish,
they may revert back to using their native language and not making any meaningful developments to
their speaking ability. Another one is learning the grammatical structure since most languages boast
complex grammar it may take time and patience to master them which most people do not have.

2. Do you think language is important? Why?

Knowing the language makes you a local no matter where you are, opening up your world literally and
figuratively. And bilinguals have many opportunities to communicate with a wider range of people in
their personal and professional lives. In addition, it helps advance Careers. Language skills can be a
significant competitive advantage that sets you apart from your monolingual peers. It is among the top
eight skills required in all occupations—no matter sector or skill level—and the demand for bilingual
professionals is rising exponentially.

3. Which is better, to study alone or to study in a group? Why?

In my point of view, studying alone allows you to set the perfect study environment so you get the
most out of studying. Besides, studying alone also allows you to use the study tactics that are the most
effective for your learning style. Some students learn best with flashcards, while others learn best
when they reread chapters

4. What’s the best way to learn a language?

I think the best way is to make New Friends. The great part about making friends who already speak
the language is that you will be able to practice freely without feeling self-conscious or on the spot. In
addition, using Context to Learn Words the Natural Way is the one way. Our brain is already an
awesome vocabulary learning machine, and there’s a scientifically proven best way to learn a
language: it’s through context.
