Volumetric Flask
A volumetric flask is used when it is
necessary to know both precisely and
accurately the volume of the solution
that is being prepared.
4
5
Beaker
• Beakers are useful as reaction containers
or to hold liquid or solid samples.
• They are also used to catch liquids from
titrations and filtrates from filtering
operations.
6
7
Bunsen Burner
• Laboratory Burners are sources of heat.
• It produces a single open gas flame and
is used for heating, sterilization, and
combustion.
8
9
BURETTE
• Burette, also spelled burette, is laboratory
apparatus used in quantitative chemical
analysis to measure the volume of a liquid or
a gas.
• It consists of a graduated glass tube with a
stopcock (turning plug, or spigot) at one end.
10
11
DROPPER
• To transfer small quantities of liquids.
• They are used in the laboratory and also to
dispense small amounts of liquid medicines.
12
13
CONICAL FLASK
• An Erlenmeyer flask, also known as a
conical flask or a titration flask, is a type
of laboratory flask that features a flat
bottom, a conical body, and a cylindrical
neck.
• Used to contain liquids and for mixing,
heating, cooling, incubation, filtration,
storage, and other liquid-handling
processes.
14
15
GRADUATED CYLINDER
• A graduated cylinder, also known as a
measuring cylinder or mixing cylinder is a
common piece of laboratory equipment used to
measure the volume of a liquid.
• It has a narrow cylindrical shape.
16
17
GLASS FUNNEL
• Glass Funnels are for funneling liquids
from one container to another or for
filtering when equipped with filter paper.
18
19
PIPETTE
• Pipette is used to dispense small
quantities of liquids.
20
21
TEST TUBE
• Test tubes are used to hold, mix, and
heat chemical experiments.
• They are used as homes for
microorganisms when people want to
culture (grow) them.
• They are also used as collections
devices for things like blood samples.
22
23
TEST TUBE HOLDER
• A test tube holder, on the other hand, is a
tool used to hold one test tube.
• By squeezing the handle, the holder's
spring-loaded jaws open in order to grip
the test tube.
24
25
TONGS
• Laboratory tongs are large pincers for
grasping and lifting vessels of heat-
resistant material used in high-temperature
chemical reactions.
• Tongs differ in shape are designed to pick
up laboratory items including, hot
evaporating dishes, beakers, crucibles, and
other laboratory apparatuses.
26
27
WASH BOTTLE
• A wash bottle is a squeeze bottle with a
nozzle, used to rinse various pieces of
laboratory glassware, such as test tubes and
round bottom flasks.
28
29
WATCH GLASS
• A watch glass is a circular concave piece of
glass used as a surface to evaporate a liquid,
to hold solids while being weighed, for
heating a small amount of substance, and as
a cover for a beaker.
30
31
WIRE GAUZE
• A wire gauze is a sheet of thin metal that
has net-like patterns or a wire mesh.
• Wire gauze is placed on the support ring
that is attached to the retort stand between
the Bunsen burner and the glassware to
support the beakers, flasks, or other
glassware during heating.
32
33
DIGITAL BALANCE
• The digital mass balances in the General
Chemistry labs are very sensitive
instruments used for weighing
substances to the milligram (0.001 g)
level.
34
LAB SAFETY RULES
35
1) Do not pipette by mouth – ever
2) Read the chemical safety information
3) Dress appropriately
4) Don't taste or sniff chemicals
5) Wash exposed areas of the skin prior to leaving the laboratory.
6) Avoid wearing jewelry in the lab as this can pose multiple safety hazards.
7) All containers must have appropriate labels. Unlabeled chemicals should never
be used.
8) Never leave containers of chemicals open.
9) Don't eat or drink in the laboratory.
10) Don't play mad scientist in the laboratory
11) Dispose of lab waste properly
