Sanimansi
I. Introduction & background of the study
Everywhere we go, there are germs. Anything we touched contains bacteria. We must
protect ourselves from pathogenic agents suck as bacteria on any surfaces. Sanimansi is a
calamansi and mint based hand sanitizer. Containing ethyl alcohol that is used to clean the hands
and kill infection or bacteria. Together with the aloe vera to prevent your skin from getting dry.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are more effective at killing microorganisms than soaps and do
not dry out hands as much
The calamansi or citrus madurencis is considered as one of the major fruit crops in the
Philippines, which is indigenous to the country. According to bobvila, mint besides having a
fresh, clean aroma, peppermint oil is a natural pesticide. We researchers created this new version
of hand sanitizer, making it an alcohol based hand sanitizer that kills 99.9 percent germs and
leaving your hands feeling clean and refreshed. Alcohol based hand sanitizer that kills the germs
and at the same time protecting your hands.
Review of Related Literature:
According to Jill Tilton, (2016), aloe vera contains natural moisturizers that help retain moisture
on dry and rough skin. As sanitizing your hands, the aloe vera will have and form a protective
layer on your skin leaving it soft for you. A hand sanitizer that does not contain any aloe vera
will surely leave your hands rough dry.
According to Joel Schelessinger, M.D, (2020) “Aloe vera is a cactus-like plant known for its
healing and medicinal properties,” The gel from aloe has been used throughout history to treat a
variety of skin conditions, such as burns, frostbite, psoriasis, and cold sores.
According to aloelabs (2020), Alcohol can be harsh itself so when you mix the aloe vera, it’s less
likely to irritate your skin. It also has the added benefit of helping your alcohol last longer, which
means you can use the same ingredients to kill more germs.
Peppermint oil and menthol have moderate antibacterial effects against both Gram-positive and
Gram-negative bacteria (Diaz et al., 1988).
According to Lillianting (2006), There is some evidence that antibacterial and antifungal effects
exist when using menthol and mint oils. After all, menthol and peppermint oil both stop
some bacteria and fungi from growing, especially in the context of an infected mint plant.
According to Gale (2015), Citrus microcarpa or Citrus mitis, also known as 'limaukasturi' is an
edible plant and have potential as antibacterial agent. The presence of bioactive compound in
limaukasturi peels extract have possessed antibacterial property by killing or inhibits the growth
of pathogenic bacterial.
According to Keith Pearson, PhD, RD, (2017) Mint is the name for over a dozen plant species,
including peppermint and spearmint, that belong to the genus Mentha. These plants are particularly
known for the cooling sensation they impart.
According to Lynna May Bocala, (2014), calamansi or calamondin belongs to the citrus family.
It is a fruit tree native in the Philippines. The tree is low set, spreading and well branched.
Calamansi is a rich source of vitamin C.
According to CFE (2018), the highest synergism was shown by calamansi, an exotic citrus fruit
previously unrecognized as an antibacterial agent. Although acid-adaptation improved bacterial
survival, calamansi (<20%) + EOCs (<0.032%) completely inactivated even the most resistant
pathogen (E. coli O157:H7).
According to blog thecasadelorenzo (2013), Calamansi has antimicrobial properties. It is not
only astringent, but it can inhibit the growth of bacteria. Although there are other stronger antiseptic
essential oils than calamansi, it can still do the job pretty well.

SUPER D.
I. Introduction and Background of the study
Based on what Maria Liana Bagui said, almost every household contains cleaning
solutions with harmful chemicals. Some solutions are harmful to the environment and the ozone
layer. Nowadays, people become more environmentally conscious and try to recycle or reuse the
waste they generated. According to Mildred Sanchez, SEO expert, House cleaning is a very
challenging task that we all must do at some time. So, we will be producing a product that will
make cleaning more enjoyable. I will introduce our product, Super D. We all know that there are
bacteria in our home that we may or may not see so we need to pick cleaning chemicals that will
be good for cleaning and will not harm the people inside the house. This product can help your
house be clean and smell good at the same time.
We are aiming for a more natural cleaning agent that is effective and may be used daily.
We researchers are hoping to find a way to make a product that suits the characteristics of a good
cleaning agent. Dalandan (Philippine Orange) is a type of citrus fruit. It's scientific name is
citrus auratium. This fruit has been a product of the Bicol, Quezon, and Mindoro regions and
since it is a citrus fruit it is a suited raw material in making a cleaning agent. It can be used to
clean kitchen counters, bathrooms, even parts with rust and mineral deposits, and many more.
II. Review of Related Literature
According to Eileen Salazar (2016), There are 6 amazing benefits of dalandan, Dalandan is a
local Philippine orange fruit but it’s skin doesn’t turn orange even when it is ripe. Dalandan is
rich in Vitamin C. It can benefit us because it is used to reduce nausea and vomiting, It is also
used in disinfecting wounds by squeezing a fresh juice on it. The rind of this fruit also helps to
relieve dizziness and car sickness just smell it and you will feel refreshed. The extracted essence
of it’s seed is also used for regulating menstruation, treatment of cough, and relief of
rheumatism, swelling and muscle pains. It is very good for appetite suppressant and it is
recommended to weight watchers. But we all know that it still has more benefits waiting to be
discovered.
According to Tagalog Lang, Dalandan is from the Spanish naranja (meaning: orange). The
Tagalog word dalandan refers to a variety of citrus fruit native to the Philippines. The scientific
name of the fruit that Filipinos refer to as dalandan is Citrus aurantium. It had also been known
by these scientific names in the past: Citrus vulgaris Risso, Citrus longispina Wester and Citrus
sinensis Osbeck. Dalandan has been called “sweet orange” or “sour orange” in other countries.
Another tagalog word for this fruit is Kahel
According to Lorraine Bunag (2020), Dalandan is readily available in our country. This makes it
an affordable way to satiate our hunger. Because of the health benefits of dalandan fruit, it’s an
excellent source of vitamin C, and promotes our general health. If the sour taste prevents you
from eating the fruit directly, you can always prepare it other ways, such as making it into a
dessert or blending it with other fruits to make a shake. Alternatively, you can purchase the
commercially prepared essential oils which can be applied topically or inhaled for aromatherapy.
Dalandan has antioxidants along with vitamin C that can help us promote skin health. But it also
has side effects and interaction, consume with caution if you have diabetes as it may affect your
blood sugar level. Likewise, when taken together with caffeine, it may increase your blood
pressure. If you are under a special diet or are taking medications, please talk to your physician
as dalandan may have untoward side-effects and interactions.
According to Rich Milton R. Dulay1 and Ma. Ellenita G. De Castro (2016), Citrus plants,
belonging to the family Rutaceae, are one of the most important commercial fruit crops grown in
the Philippines. This paper highlighted the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of the leaves
extracts of three citrus plants namely: Citrus microcarpa (calamansi), Citrus aurantium
(dalandan) and Citrus maxima (pomelo). They investigated the antibacterial property of those
citrus fruits. Phenolic compounds (tocopherols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids), nitrogen
compounds (alkaloids, chlorophyll derivatives, amino acids, and amines), carotenoids, and
ascorbic acid are natural antioxidants. They have a broad range of useful antibacterial, antiviral,
and pharmaceutical activities; thus, they have tremendous importance to humankind.
According to Food Science and Nutrition (2016), The Fruit juices of Citrus tangerine (tangerine),
Citrus paradisi (grape), Citrus limon (lemon), and Citrus aurantifolia (lime) were evaluated.
Antimicrobial activities against five bacterial and three fungal strains were evaluated. The results
revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, saponins, cardiac glycosides,
and reducing sugars in all the juice concentrates.
As indicated by Best Clean ever, Fresh water is important for cleanliness and health. The ancient
Babylonians are acknowledged for their use of clean water in the home, and the ancient Romans
receive credit for the first aqueduct and sewer system. Bringing clean water in and sending dirty
water out is a critical step in household cleanliness. Clean water makes it possible for people to
clean themselves as well as cooking utensils and clothing. Cleaning with fresh water reduces
illnesses caused by bacteria and viruses, promoting a healthier home and family.
Human shelters have constantly evolved. From tents to sophisticated high-rise buildings, we
have indeed come a long way. Granted that is because of technological advancement and
inventions have been integral to the architectural changes in history, improvement is not
restricted to homes. Scientific innovations have also made cleaning supplies and products more
efficient than ever before. Bacteria were first discovered by scientist Antoni Van Leeuwenhoek.
He found out that bacteria are pathogens that cause a multitude of diseases. More discoveries
have been made in this area of study and cleaner practices have been popularized to promote
health. Today, Chemicals are also able to purify, treat, and condition water. In addition, the
manufacturing of cleaning products is required to follow the requirements of environmental
legislation.
As specified by EnviroSpec, Before there was quite a bit of anything to clean, there was water.
As humanity's first cleaning compound, it was a truly powerful one; you could without much of a
stretch wash the mud off your mind in a cascade, puddle or sea. Due to its subatomic structure,
numerous substances essentially broke down, and were washed away, in water, which is the
reason it's considered the 'universal solvent’. Around 2200 BC, the ancient Babylonians found a
way to improve water’s cleaning power, and like so many great discoveries, it was by accident.
Water had been used to clean cooking utensils that were covered in animal fat and wood ash. By
combining the three substances, they inadvertently created the world’s first soap.
According to herbanext laboratories (2020), Citrus aurantium or commonly known as dalandan
is rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids that have antioxidant and immune boosting activities.
Dalandan’s limonene content possesses gastroprotective properties. Its essential oil has
antimicrobial, anxiolytic, sedative, and gastroprotective properties that helps in disinfecting the
household and is safe for the health.
According to Jyotsna A. Saonere Suryawanshi (2011), Citrus aurantium (bitter orange) is a plant
belonging to the family Rutaceae, The most important biologically active constituents of the C.
aurantium fruits are phenethylamine alkaloids octopamine, synephrine, tyramine, N-
methyltyramine and hordenine. It is rich in vitamin C, flavonoids and volatile oil. Synephrine is a
primary synthesis compound with pharmacological activities such as vasoconstriction, elevation
of blood pressure and relaxation of bronchial muscle. whose fruit extracts have been used for the
treatment of various diseases such as gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, headaches,
cardiovascular diseases, cancer, antiseptic, anti-oxidant, antispasmodic, aromatic, astringent,
carminative, digestive, sedative, stimulant, stomachic and tonic and by research novel use is
found in obesity and related risks even life threatening are continuously increasing throughout
world in all age groups. She also stated in her study that The National Center for Complementary
and Alternative Medicine found that "there is currently little evidence that bitter orange or
dalandan is safer to use than ephedra". It is easily available and comparatively safe.
According to Noura S. Dosoky and William N. Setzer (2018), the essential oil (EO) is the most
vital by-product of Citrus processing. Citrus EOs such as Citrus aurantium essential oil are
broadly used as natural food additives in several food and beverage products because they have
been classified as generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Furthermore, Citrus EOs are used as
natural preservatives due to their broad spectrum of biological activities including antimicrobial
and antioxidant effects. Due to their pleasant refreshing smell and rich aroma, Citrus EOs are
also used in air-fresheners, household cleaning products, perfumes, cosmetics, and medicines.
The main components in the essential oil of bitter orange (dalandan) leaf are linalyl acetate and
linalool.
