Mr. Kelada's psychological analysis
If you've read the Mr. Know-All story, you know Mr. Kelada is a talkative
person and always wants to win. After discovering the true value of the pearls, Mr.
Kelada laughed and prepared to tell his conclusions and prove that he was a pearl
connoisseur. Suddenly, he discovered that there was Mrs. Ramsay's anxiety and
desperately begged. “Mr. Kelada stopped with his mouth open”. At that time, Mr.
Kelada knew that the secret of the pearls was not only its true price, but it was also
the reason that Mrs. Ramsay did not want to be revealed. “He flushed deeply”. He
began an inner battle, on one side was his honor, on the other was the honor of
Mrs. Ramsay. We can see how the inner battle expression by the sentences “You
could almost see the effort he was making over himself.” And as a result, Mr.
Kelada did what a man needs to do, accepting that the pearls were only worth $8.
Mr. Kelada was laughed at by everyone that night, but people did not know that he
had given up his ego and saved the honor and happiness of another person. He was
just criticized for only one day, and if he chose himself, Mrs. Ramsay would be
criticized for a lifetime. After the sentence in the story, we see the process of
transformation in Mr. Kelada’s psychology. It starts from stopping laughing after
knowing Mrs. Ramsay's secret to his inner battle and he must try to makeover
himself. The nickname Mr. Know-All is true for Mr. Kelada, who knows many
things and knows what to do. Through the character Mr. Kelada, the author sent a
message that does not judge others by appearance.
