Instruction: Read the lecture on CONFLICT MANAGEMENT and write an ESSAY

following the pattern or stages of conflict (antecedent conditions, perceived/felt conflict,
manifest behavior, conflict resolution/suppression, and resolution aftermath) by recalling a
specific conflict in your life (personal, academics, clinical related) and by looking at it with a
different perspective answer the following questions:

1. What antecedent conditions led to conflict?

2. What was the core of the conflict?
3. How would you look at the same conflict now?

Antecedent conflict is the concept or theory that suggests events that happen early in life
which are troubling, traumatic, or disturbing bring about intense reactions to conflict during
adult life. This is not to say that people who simply don’t deal with problems well have
antecedent conflict.
Conflict can also be caused by disagreement over something, misunderstanding, not accepting
the wrong, envy, anger at someone, competition, or being close minded to another person’s
opinion. As a level 4 college student, I experienced having conflict with a friend, classmate,
or even within the home.I experience different causes of conflict like information conflicts,
values conflicts, interest conflicts, relationship conflicts, and structural conflicts. But when I
was in Senior High school I encountered a information conflicts.

When I was in Senior High School our strand STEM was having a science fair that conducted
in Bongabon,Nueva Ecija. So our teachers picked many groups and if you will win for the
research defense they are gonna be the school representative. Our group was included in
Investigatory project (group category). My group mate’s were having a information conflicts
or vertical conflict for our experimental research a Investigatory project. Before,we have
misunderstanding for doing a research what fruits were gonna be use for our experimental
research and for the expenses. We had a conflict about delegating the task, doing roles and
helping the whole group. And the misunderstanding was added up when we arrived in
Bongabon. Our group was in 12 presentor so we have a time to practice more for the question
and answer. But we see that our sample experimental soap the bottle was dented. Our advisor
in research help us and talk our group that if we continue our conflicts it will affect our
performance. By the advice of our advisor we cleared our own little problems and
misunderstanding for each other and give our best to win.By confronting our problem and
collaborate our group win and were place in top 7.
From that experience from the past, I can conclude that the conflict arose because of lack of
shared perceptions and being irresponsible.
Now that I’ve look back to that experience, it’s funny that we had such a scenario during
those times.Whatever the cause of disagreements and disputes in school, these skills can help
to resolve conflict in a constructive way and keep the relationships strong and growing.Team
conflict is natural. But by practicing the conflict resolution skills we outline here, will be able
to spot and deal with issues before escalate. To avoid team conflict, be proactive, observe, be
impartial, step in when needed, avoid assumptions, and be patient.
