THEOPHYLLINE - Drug Study

Theophylline is used to treat reversible bronchospasm associated with asthma or COPD. It works by directly relaxing smooth muscles of the bronchial tree and pulmonary blood vessels. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, headache, flushing, and hypotension. It can also cause tachycardia, arrhythmias, insomnia, anxiety, and seizures. When taking theophylline, patients should be monitored for effectiveness and side effects. They should also be advised to avoid certain foods, medications, alcohol and caffeine which can interact with the drug.
