JERIC CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, Locale of the
Study, Population and Sampling, Sampling Procedure, Data
Gathering Procedure, and Research Instrument. (include
Statistical Treatment for quanti. research that will utilize
statistics.)
Research Design
Choose from the different research designs taught by your
teachers. And describe briefly what it is, and discuss how you
will use it in your study.
Locale of the Study
Describe the settings of your research. You do not need to
discuss all the facts about the place, just the information
related to you study. You can include an image of the aerial map
of the place, but do not make it too big.
Population
This part is concerned with describing your respondents. To
make it easy, describe your population in this way, population,
specific sample, the sampling method used. For example, the
participants of this study were selected from senior high school
students who are watching koreanovelas. The researchers selected
20 participants using the purposive sampling method. The more in-
depth discussion of your selection process will be discussed in
the next part.
2
Sampling technique
In this part, you are going to describe what sampling
technique you used, why you chose those participants (especially
for those using the purposive sampling), and the procedure of
selecting the sample. You may also create a table to show the
distribution of your sample, and the groupings for your control
and experimental groups (specifically in quantitative studies)
Data Gathering Procedure
In this part you are going to identify what you did to
gather data. It is important that you narrate your procedure
chronologically, since it is a procedure. Be careful not to be
too specific.
Research Instrument
In this part you will describe the data gathering instrument
that you used. Write it in this order: what is the instrument?
What does it intend to measure? What kind of questions does your
instrument ask/measure? (do not identify the specific questions,
just describe the kind of questions in general)
Statistical Treatment (for quanti. studies that will utilize
statistics only)
If you will use a statistical method to analyze your data,
identify it here, describe also what that specific method will
measure, and how you are going to interpret it (you may identify
the scale of interpretation here) example. The following are the
statistical treatments used to conduct the research:
3
1. The weighted mean-define, describe what you will measure
using this, place the formula, place the scale of
interpretation.
