George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving proclamation established a national day of thanksgiving to acknowledge God's blessings on the new United States. It recognized God's protection of the country and provision of liberty, knowledge, and prosperity. The founders knew America should acknowledge and be grateful to God. Similarly, the Bible teaches that failing to acknowledge and thank God leads to spiritual darkness. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, wrote in the Book of Daniel about a dream he had of a large tree providing shelter and food for all that was cut down, acknowledging God's power and sovereignty.

thankful. These preconditions led di-
rectly to this result: “they became vain
in their imaginations and their foolish

Here’s an example of this from the
book of Daniel. There was a famous
king named Nebuchadnezzar. He
overtook Jerusalem and took Daniel,
Ezekiel, and all the children of Israel
captive into Babylon. So it might come
as a bit of a surprise that Nebuchad-
nezzar wrote one of the chapters in
the Bible. It is the fourth chapter of
the Book of Daniel. “Nebuchadnezzar

told to be grateful for. The first time
we encounter the word “rejoice” in the
Old Testament is in connection with
the Feast of Tabernacles. The Hebrew
word is samach, and it simply means
to rejoice or be glad. According to the
Law of First Mention, the first time we
encounter a word in scripture, it has
significant relevance as to the meaning
of that word. I don’t know if I subscribe
to that idea, but it is interesting that the
first time we are asked by God to be
glad it’s to be glad about being delivered
from slavery.
This means we are to make a real
effort to keep the spirit of the Feast
alive not only for ourselves but also for
others. Like Paul told the Ephesians, we
must be eager and make every effort

seven desert shepherds—Abraham,
Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron,
and King David—would come and
visit them. The plaque would have
an invitation on it to the least in their
community to come in and share a meal
with them—for no desert shepherd
would dare deign to enter a sukkah
that didn’t offer to provide for the
stranger, much like Abraham did those
three strangers (one of which was God
himself). There was this real concern
for the dispossessed among them and
to take care of them. And from looking
around while at the Feast, I saw exactly
that—people taking care of the people.
Although we did not have a service
project this year at the Feast, I know of
one person that came in off the street
who we fed spiritually.
There is something special that
emerges when you’re present with so
many brethren, locked in love, who are
trying in earnest to make someone’s
Feast enjoyable.
Both Christian Educational
Ministries and the Church of God
International did a fantastic job
in administering this Holy Day.
Furthermore, we had the help of some
really dedicated attendees. All in all,
this was one of the best Feasts in recent
memory. For those of you who were
unable to attend, we hope to see you
next year. We would love to make your
Feast special.

Faye Brown
It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the death of our first hired employee,
Faye Brown. On October 10th, 2021, Faye Brown lost her battle with COPD.
She spent over 13 years as Ron Dart’s dedicated secretary here at Christian
Educational Ministries. She will be missed and may God rest her sweet soul
until that Great Day.

Joy and Dave’s Tribute to Faye

Faye and Buddy Brown have been our friends for several years. Faye was a
beautiful person inside and out. We met Faye and Buddy over 30 years ago at
the DFW Church of God International and our friendship hit it off from the
beginning.
From traveling together and a lot of camping, to church and Feast trips, we
have shared what seems a lifetime of memories, laughter, love and even some
tears along the way. Faye and Buddy are more family to us than just friends. We
will forever miss your smiling face and warm heart. We promise to keep your
memories alive, from Thursday night dinners to having a glass of wine after
church on Saturdays.
We love you Faye, and you will be sorely missed.
