Lecture no 1, 2 & 3 Islamic Study

Islam
The religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad as the
Prophet of Allah.
Islam is an Arabic word meaning "submission" and in the. Religious context means "submission
to the will of God". "Islam" is derived from the Arabic word "sal'm" which. Literally means peace. The
religion demonstrates peace and tolerance.

Oxford Dictionary
The Muslim religion, based on belief in one God and revealed through Muhammad as the Prophet of Allah
Muslims have six main beliefs.
1. Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
2. Belief in angels.
3. Belief in the holy books.
4. Belief in the Prophets... e.g. Adam, Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Isa
(Jesus). ...
5. Belief in the Day of Judgement
6. Belief in Predestination

"He has ordained for you (O Muhammad) that faith which He commended to Noah and that which he
commended to Abraham, Moses and Jesus saying,
“Establish the Faith and be not divided therein" (Al-Quran)
According to the Quran
"Those who believe and whose heart find rest in the remembrance of Allah -indeed it is in the thought of Allah alone
that the heart of man really finds rest-those who believe and act righteously ,joy is for them and a blissful home to
return to.

BASIC CONCEPT OF ISLAM

The basic Islamic concept is based on Towheed and the belief that Muhammad (PBUH) is the last prophet sent by
God as a messenger to guide and teach the mankind to the right path.
The belief of Towheed is a revolutionary concept and constitutes the essence of the teachings of Islam. It means that
there is only One Supreme Lord of the universe who is the Sustainer of mankind. His presence and governess can be
felt if we observe the scattered stars in the infinite space, the harmony of seasons, the vast panorama of nature with
its charm and beauty all point towards one fact that this system of universe is being governed by only one God who
has created all of the things around us. Truly Allah said,
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari
"O, Mankind worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may ward off evil. Who has
appointed the earth a resting place for you, the sky a canopy? And who causes water to pour down from the heavens,
thereby producing fruits as food for you? So do not setup rivals to Allah, when you know better". (Al-Quran)

5 principles of Islam?
The five pillars
1. The declaration of faith (shahada),
2. Prayer (salah),
3. Alms-giving (zakat),
4. Fasting (sawm)
5. Pilgrimage (hajj)
Constitute the basic norms of Islamic practice. They are accepted by Muslims globally irrespective of
ethnic, regional or sectarian differences

There are three traditional types of schools in Islam: schools of jurisprudence, Sufi orders and schools of
theology. Other types of Islamic denominations and movements have arisen in the modern era
Basic Characteristics of Islamic ideology

Simplicity
Islam's as a religion is simple as it is free from superstitions and irrational beliefs. The unity of God, the
Prophet Hood of Muhammad (PBUH) and the concept of life after death are the basic articles of this faith.

Rationalism

Islam enjoins man to see things in the light of reality. It teaches man to use his intellect and observe as well
understand the real meanings of the presence of the things around him .The Prophet of Islam said,

"He who leaves his home in the search of some knowledge walks in the path of God." (Al-Quran)
Quran advised man to pray, "O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge"
Muhammad (PBUH) also stressed regarding the attainment of knowledge in the following words,

"To seek knowledge is obligatory for mankind.

Practice
Islam, as a religion is not based on empty or futile theories .Infect it intensely educates in attaining a
practical approach towards one's existence both as an individual and as a social being. It says that Islam is
not a mere profession of beliefs, it is the essence of life. It is a religion which is something to be lived and
not an object of mere lip service. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in this regard,

"God does not accept belief, if it is not expressed in deeds, and does not accept deeds, if they do not
conform to belief" (Al-Quran)

Complete way of life

Islam as a religion has a wide horizon and a scope. It is not only restricted to the private matters and affairs
concerning an individual rather it deals with all the fields of human existence. It carries within its teachings
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari
a complete guidance concerning the individual and social, material and moral, economic and political,
legal and cultural, national and international. It also clearly states that its objectives are the purification of
the soul and the reformation of the society. As Quran says,

"We verily sent Our messengers with clear proofs and revealed with them the Scripture and the Balance,
that mankind may observe justice and the right measure." (Al-Quran)

Universality and humanism

God in Islam is the God of all the world. In Islam there is no distinction on the basis of colour, creed,
language or nationality. All men are equal in the eyes of Islam and it insits in the removal of all the
impediments on the basis of status, wealth and social status.

"O Lord! Lord of my life and of everything in the universe! I affirm that all human beings are brothers to
one another." (Al-Quran)
Islam wants to unite all the human race under one code of life and presents
a message of hope and a glorious future for its followers. According to Holy Prophet (PBUH),
"Respect God and be affectionate to the family of God.

Faith
To catch something, in Islamic perspective mean that to catch the Islamic principle
Contextual meaning of faith is complete trust and confidence in a religion or in religious doctrine is call
faith.
IMAAN means to acceptance something and comply on it
If someone said that I have trust in Quran but with trust it is important to comply on Quran.
Hazrat Muhammad PBAH said accept it with comply on Tongue then comply heart then implement in
action.
Important of Faith
Religion and Deen both have faith there is ideology in every religious it may be symmetric or not
symmetric like Ibrahim Mazahab Christianity Judheism and Islam and Non Ibrahim Like Hindusim, Sikh,
Pharsi etc. all religion are based on faiths

Faith in Islam
Sadhurudin Islai definition on Islam; The combination of two thing, faith and rituals
Allah said in Quran
The deeds of those who reject their Lord are like ashes that the wind blows furiously on a stormy day: they
have no power over anything they have gained. This is to stray far, far away. Soorah Ibraheem (14:18)

Prophet (PBAH) Said

Actions are result of faith.
As you sow so shall your reap is on the basis of your faith.
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari
Goodness does not consist in turning your face towards East or West. The truly good are those who believe
in God and the Last Day, in the angels, the Scripture, and the prophets; who give away some of their
wealth, however much they cherish it, to their relatives, to orphans, the needy, travellers and beggars, and
to liberate those in bondage; those who keep up the prayer and pay the prescribed alms; who keep pledges
whenever they make them; who are steadfast in misfortune, adversity, and times of danger. These are the
ones who are true, and it is they who are aware of God. (2:177)

You who believe, believe in God and His Messenger and in the Scripture He sent down to His Messenger,
as well as what He sent down before. Anyone who does not believe in God, His angels, His Scriptures, His
messengers, and the Last Day has gone far, far astray.

Kinds of Faith in Islam

1. Toheed
2. Risalat
3. Aakhrat

Towheed:
Monotheism/Wahdaniyat Parasti
Monotheism is the belief in one God. A narrower definition of monotheism is the belief in the
existence of only one god that created the world. There are some Religion who belief one God like Islam,
Sikhism and Christianity. Other religion are different and not one God also Ishwar is only one in
Hindusim because Ishware is AVATAR of God. But Hinduism have some other Gods. Who they make
them by their self.
In Islam all Muslims belief in one God, and Allah is supreme leader and powerful.
Hazrat Younus said their nation you will face consequences from Allah, but Allah did not make
consequences it means Allah is only Powerful, Sustainer, creator and Allah alone is Eternal

Kullu nafsin zaiqatul maut every soul shall taste death.

Towheed in Islam
Only Allah is worthy of worship. Biggest sin in Islam is Shirk
Tawhid is the religion's central and single most important concept, upon which a Muslim's entire religious
adherence rests. It unequivocally holds that God as per Islam is One and Single
Importance of Towheed
The core Pillar of Islam on the basis of Sharia/ Way of Life Promery source of Shaira are Quran and
Sunnah and secondary source of Shaira are Ijma and Ijtihad it guide us from individual life to collective
life and also Toheed tell Muslims how to be the political system and judicial system in states. No one can
change the concepts of towheed.

Three Types of Towheed

Towheed can be divided into three categories.

1 Unity in Person
Scientific approaches
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari
Singularity Big bang Universe But energy is required for blast and that energy is come from dark
matter but when a question for that they said Law of conservation 1st law of thermodynamic it means
energy cannot be created nor destroy. But there is not any scientific proof about dark energy.

But in blast there must be smoke and irregularity but in Universe there is not any kind of smoke. In Cern
lab they experiment about energy Particle and discovered by higgs Boson but they don’t know about that
Particle energy.

Universe is expanding Stephen proved that universe is expanding through red ship in physical science.
And he said that is nature but don’t have right Answer.

Islamic Point of View

Allah—the Sustainer ˹needed by all˺.
He has never had offspring, nor was He born.
And there is none comparable to Him. (Al-Ikhlas)

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. His light1 is like a niche in which there is a lamp, the lamp
is in a crystal, the crystal is like a shining star, lit from ˹the oil of˺ a blessed olive tree, ˹located˺ neither to
the east nor the west,2 whose oil would almost glow, even without being touched by fire. Light upon light!
Allah guides whoever He wills to His light. And Allah sets forth parables for humanity. For Allah has
˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things (24:25)

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. His light1 is like a niche in which there is a lamp, the lamp
is in a crystal, the crystal is like a shining star, lit from ˹the oil of˺ a blessed olive tree, ˹located˺ neither to
the east nor the west, whose oil would almost glow, even without being touched by fire. Light upon light!
Allah guides whoever He wills to His light. And Allah sets forth parables for humanity. For Allah has
˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things. (24:35)

Then He turned towards the heaven when it was ˹still like˺ smoke, saying to it and to the earth, ‘Submit,
willingly or unwillingly.’ They both responded, ‘We submit willingly. (41:11)

Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then we split them apart?
And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (21:30)
We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺ (51:47)
2. Unity in Attributes

99 Names of Allah and Allah create everything in perfect condition

The Lord of the world announces, Surely We have created human of the best stature as the perfect pattern
of creation (At-Tin Surah, 95:4)

Allah said we created from dust and tack a sperm drop and make it a blood and after that meet and bones
then give a face and soil in human all said we created human step by step

For˺ indeed, We ˹alone˺ created humans from a drop of mixed fluids,1 ˹in order˺ to test them, so We made
them hear and see. (76:2)
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari

3. Unity in action
Allah alone give life Allah said Kun then it faya Kun
˹He is˺ the Originator of the heavens and the earth! When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it,
“Be!” And it is! (2:117)

Shirk/ Polytheism
1. Associate Allah alone is supreme leader no on associate with Allah.
2. Imam Tayyamari Pride and arrogance
3. Shah Waliullah Ambiguity in Faith is called Shirk and insult of humanity is also a short of
shirk

Impact of Towheed
1. Individual life:
 Self-respect and dignity Allah said do not call human with bad names
 Accountability and human found peace in mind and heart with the help of Towheed
 Human do good deeds for salvation, Human could ne be narrow mind in life.
 Human could not be despondent if human have faith in Towheed
 On the basis of religion Bravery comes in Pakistan Army solder
2. Collective Life:
 Concept of Equality and dignity in society. In Masjid everyone is equal
 Concept of Brotherhood Allah said all Muslims are brother
 Inter religious harmony do not say anything to Non-Muslims
 Right and duties are more important
 Dual concept of accountability if we believe on Allah then we have to face the punishment
for sins

Prophet Hood
Different Between Prophet, Messenger and Rasool
1. “Rasool” is an Islamic word for “messenger” while “Nabi” is the Islamic as well as the
Hebrew word for “prophet.”
2. There are several thousand Nabis (124000) while there are only a few Rasools.
Rasool is superior form of Nabi Allah always select Rasool from Nabi one school of
thought said that there are 4 Rasools in Islam some Muslim Scholars say there are 313
Rasul had been send by Allah to spread His new Sharia. In Holly Qaran 25 Nabis
names are mentioned.
All Nabi could not be a Rasool but every Rasool is Nabi.
3. While both the Rasool and the Nabi are tasked with sharing the message of Allah to His
people, a Rasool holds a higher position while a Nabi holds a lower position.
4. A Rasool is always a Nabi while a Nabi may or may not become a Rasool.
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
Sir Raza Ansari
5. While a Rasool receives a new Sharia from Allah, a Nabi does not and only follows the
Sharia of the Rasool before him.
6. A Rasool receives messages through visions and communication with angels while
awake while a Nabi receives messages which are conveyed to him by angels in his
sleep.
1. Prophet Must be a Human being
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I am only a man like you, ˹but˺ it has been revealed to me that your God
is only One God. So whoever hopes for the meeting with their Lord, let them do good deeds
and associate none in the worship of their Lord. (18:110)
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Had there been angels walking the earth, well settled, We would have
surely sent down for them an angel from heaven as a messenger. (17:95)
2. Bounty of Allah
Their messengers said to them, “We are ˹indeed˺ only humans like you, but Allah favours
whoever He chooses of His servants. It is not for us to bring you any proof without Allah’s
permission. And in Allah let the believers put their trust. (14:11)
3. Knowledge besrwood by Allah
Nor does he speak of his own whims. (53:3)
It is only a revelation sent down ˹to him (53:4)
˹He is the One˺ Who has made the earth a place of settlement for you and the sky a canopy;
and sends down rain from the sky, causing fruits to grow as a provision for you. So do not
knowingly set up equals to Allah ˹in worship˺ (2:23)
4. Characterful
And you are truly ˹a man˺ of outstanding character. (68:4)
5. For every nation there was a Prophet
We have surely sent you with the truth as a deliverer of good news and a warner. There is
no community that has not had a warner (35:24)
6. Worthy of Obedience
O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. Should
you disagree on anything, then refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you ˹truly˺ believe in
Allah and the Last Day. This is the best and fairest resolution. (4:59)
7. Nature of Prophet hood
Whenever a sign comes to them, they say, “We will never believe until we receive what
Allah’s messengers received.” Allah knows best where to place His message. The wicked
will soon be overwhelmed by humiliation from Allah and a severe punishment for their evil
plots. (6:124)
8. Seal of Prophet
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men,1 but is the Messenger of Allah and the seal
of the prophets. And Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things. (33:40)
Ghazanfar Ali Lecture 1,2 &3 Islamic Study
