JIS G 3128": 1999
High yield strength steel plates for 2
welded structure
Introduction This is the Japanese Industrial Standard with its body based on the original Japanese
Industrial Standard revised in 1987, and Annexes 2 to 4 based on ISO 4950-1 High yield strength flat
steel products—Part 1: General requirement, Part 2: Products supplied in thé normalized or con-
trolled rolled condition, and Parts 3 : products supplied in the heat-treated (quenched + temperéd) con-
dition published in 1995 after a revision, without modifying its technical content.
4 Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the hot-rolled steel plate’ of 780 N/mm in ten-
sile strength and 685 N/mm? in proof stress with excellent weldability , (hereafter referred to as the
“steel plates”) used for pressure vessels, high pressure equipment, and other structures.
The steel products specified in Annex 3 and Annex 4 shall be also constituted provisions of this
‘Standard. However, the matter in an Annex 2 to Annex 4 are concluded itself and independent of the
matters specified in the body of this Standard. For this reason, itis not allowed to apply the parts of the’
provision specified in the body to the Annex. Similarly, the parts of the provision specified in Annex
are not allowed to apply for the steel products specified in the body of this Standard
2. Normative references The normative references shall be given in Attached Table 1
‘The standards shown in Attached Table 1 contain provisions which, through reference in this Stan-
dard, constitute provisions of this Standard. 2
Normative references described on the most recent edition shall apply.
3. Grade and Designation The steel plates shall be classified into 3 grades, and their designation
shall be as given in Tables 1

4 Chemical Composition and Carbon Equivalent The chemical composition and carbon equiva~
lent of the steel plates shall be determined by the method in 9.1. The values of the ladle analysis and
carbon equivalent shall be in accordance with Table 2.

Note () The value of carbon equivalent shall be in accordance with the agreement between the purchaser and the supplier.
Remarks 1 Alloying elements other than those given in the above Table may be added, if necessary.
2. The carbon equivalent shall be calculated with the following formula and the values shall be in accordance with Table 2, 7

5 Mechanical Properties Mechanical Properties shall be as follows.
a) Steel plates shall be tested in accordance with 9.2 and the proof stress, tensile strength, elongation
and bending property of the stee! plates shall comply with Table 3.
In the case of bend test, however, no cracking shall appear on the outside of the bent portion. The bend
test may be omitted, unless otherwise particularly specified by the purchaser.
b) The steel plates of over 12 mm in thickness shall be tested in accordance with 9. 2 and Charpy ab-
sorbed energy shall comply with Tables 4. When an impact test is specified for the steel plates 12 mm
or under in thickness at the time of order, it shall be made on the subsize impact test pieces. In this case
, the Charpy absorbed energy shall in accordance with Table 5.
) Regardless of the specification of the body of this Standard , the purchaser may specify the supple-
mentary quality requirement specified in Appendix 1 in accordance with the previous agreement be~
tween the purchaser and the supplier.

6 Shape, Dimensions, Mass and Tolerances The shape, dimensions, mass and tolerances ‘of the
steel plates shall be in accordance with JIS G 3193. However, the following requirements shall be sat-
isfied.
a) The tolerances of the length of the steel plate and width of cut edge shall apply the tolerance A,
unless otherwise specified. The tolerance in thickness shall be in accordance with Table 6.
bj In the calculation of the mass of the steel plate, the values which are added the numérical value
given in Table 7 to the itidicated thickness shall be used.
