(Ver 1) TOPIC: Some people say that libraries will eventually be replaced
by online platforms for reading in the future, while others say that they
have irreplaceable roles. Discuss and give your opinions.
There exists a statement that at a future date, books can be accessed only by
means of the Internet; consequently, public libraries will no longer be available.
This essay will examine the two sides of this viewpoint and offer a reasoned
conclusion.
Regarding libraries, their pros are undeniable. First, they offer free educational
resources to everyone. In the US, at a library, almost every service is free of
charge, including books, internet access=>network connectivity, or even getting
advice from librarians on different topics, such as job applications. Second,
libraries assume a vital part in financially boosting local areas. For example,
they allocate a work space for telecommuters, prepare interviews and meetings
for those who are unemployed.
However, I opine that the online accesibility of books results in a larger number
of benefits. The first reason is the diversity of books on the Internet. Looking
back at 2020, AO3 – a famous online reading platform, reported that
everyday=> every day there were on average 4,000 new works updated on their
website. What’s more, it is said to be over 6 million works in total archived by
this forum only. In addition, it is easier to search for a book with smart devices
comparing with a library. Instead of wearily looking through numerous giant
shelves till we get a book of interest, we can simply type some key words and
the outcomes will be magneficent.
In conclusion, though libraries are an incredible place to understand books, I am
of the opinion that online platforms would be a preferable choice for readers.
