UPGRADING WORKS FOR AIR HANDLING UNIT

PHASE 1 AT SIME DARBY MEDICAL CENTRE

SUBANG JAYA

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
AIR HANDLING UNIT
1.0 AIR HANDLING UNIT

1.1 GENERAL

The air handling unit, as assembled, shall be complete with fan, coil(s), insulated casing,
filters, mixing box for ducted return unit, drive and accessories.

The capacity and type of air handling unit shall be as specified in the schedule and/or as
shown on the drawings.

1.2 UNIT CASING

The air handling unit shall be of modular constructed by galvanized sheet, formed and
reinforced to provide a rigid assembly. Formed panels shall be removable to provide easy
access.

Framework shall be thermal break and properly insulated to prevent formation of

condensation on the exterior and intermediate surface of the unit casing under the
extremes of operation and ambient conditions. The thermal bridging factor shall be Class
TB2 with insulation thickness not less than 2.5 cm. The insulation shall be adequately
supported to prevent collapse and to eliminate the formation of cavities. All fixing
screws/bolts shall not result in thermal bridge of casing external/internal surface.

Infill panels of the air handling unit shall be of insulated double skin construction, comprising
of a sandwich of insulation between two galvanized steel sheets. External/internal skins shall
be of minimum thickness of 0.6mm with 100micron polyester powder coating, alternatively
200micron pre-plastic coating or 2 numbers of undercoats and finished with a gloss enamel
coating comply with VDI 6022 hygienic standard. The panels insulation shall have minimum
thickness of 60mm (injected PU foam at 40 kg/cum) thermal conductivity not exceeding
0.02W/m°C. All unit panels, including floor panel shall be double skins insulated and flush
with frame to form a flat casing external surface. Internal frame shall be edgeless design (no
sharp edge).

Drain pan shall be double sloped design to avoid retention of condensate water inside. Drain
pans shall be constructed of stainless steel 304 and to be built-in in the AHU base panel.
Drain pans shall be externally insulated with PU foam at 40 kg/cum.
The overall casing shall comply with the following criteria in accordance with EN1886 and
EUROVENT certified test report should be submitted:

i. Casing strength – Class D1

ii. Casing air leakage under -400 Pa – Class L1

iii. Casing air leakage under +700 Pa – Class L1

iv. Filter frame bypass leakage at 400 Pa – Class F9

v. Overall thermal transmittance – Class T2

vi. Thermal bridging factor – Class TB2 or TB1

1.3 COOLING COILS

The cooling coil shall be rated in accordance with AHRI Standard 410.

The coil shall be arranged for counter flow operation with staggered copper tubes
mechanically expanded into aluminium fins, and shall have a supporting casing of galvanised
steel. Intermediate coil supports shall be provided for any stacked cooling coil. Copper tube
wall thickness shall be 0.41mm minimum and aluminium fin thickness shall be 0.14mm thick.

The headers shall be of heavy seamless copper pipe silver-brazed to the copper tubes. The
coil frame shall be constructed of stainless steel 304

The complete coil assembly shall be tested under water with compressed air up to 2500kPa.
All coils shall be designed for operation at 2000 kPA and up to 90 °c. Fin spacing shall not be
closer than 400 fins per meter (12 FPI), with face velocity not exceeding 2.5m/s. Face
velocity for OT AHU will be considerably lower to achieve laminar flow at the diffusers.

1.4 BLOWER FANS (DWDI Fan)

The blower shall be DWDI backward curved blade non-overloading type. The wheel shall be
mill galvanised steel and painted with baked on enamel. The fan wheel shall be statically and
dynamically balanced together with the shaft as an assembly and shall be selected to
operate at least 15% below the first critical speed.

Fan shaft bearings shall be self-aligned heavy pillow block, re-greaseable ball types selected
for an average life of 200,000 hours at design operating conditions.

Fan and motor shall be mounted on the common rigid steel base frame. The base frame
shall then be supported on spring and neoprene in series isolators with a minimum static
deflection of 25mm.
1.5 MOTOR & VARIABLE SPEED DRIVES

The fan motor shall be rated for 400V three phase 50 Hz operation. The motor shall be of
TEFC construction call F insulation and mounted inside the AHU.

The motor shall be connected to a Frequency Inverter type variable speed drive for purpose
of adjusting and varying the supply air volume.

1.6 MIXING BOXES

The mixing box where required shall be designed to mix fresh air and recirculated air by
means of interconnected dampers to minimize the stratification of entering air.

The mixing box shall be same construction as AHU construction. Mixing box shall include
opposed blade dampers for both and return and fresh air intake. The damper construction
material shall be aluminium with aerofoil blade design.

1.7 FILTERS

Primary Filters (Pleated Washable)

Primary filter shall be of pleated washable type. Filter media shall be manufactured from
polyester synthetic fibre media and supported with a lightweight aluminium holding frame.

The filter shall have an average arrestance efficiency of 85% and dust spot efficiency of 25-
30% base on ASHRAE Standard 52.

Secondary Filters (Pleated Disposable)

Secondary filter shall be high performance, deep pleated, totally rigid and disposable type.

Unless specified otherwise the filter shall have a dust spot efficiency of 90-95% base on
ASHRAE standard 52.

Enclosing frame shall be constructed of galvanized steel. It shall be assembled in such a

manner that the media pack shall be rigid mechanical and chemically bonded to the inside of
the frame to eliminate the possibility of air bypass.

Hepa Filters

The Hepa Filters shall be individually tested and certified to have efficiency up to 99.99% on
0.3 micrometer particles according to ASHRAE Std. 52-68.

The filter shall be held in place by an approved proprietary factory made housing which
ensures complete airtight seal between holding frame and the housing. A positive locking
mechanism shall be supplied. The filter housing shall be constructed in such a manner so
filters can be remove easily for replacement servicing purposes.
