keeping a smart, clean & sanitary condition.
The efficient maintenance & upkeep of all cargo lifting gear, ensuring that they are kept in a safe condition, & correctly
rigged according to local & international requirements, e.g regulations, together w/ the necessary records.
The efficient maintenance & upkeep of all mooring gear, including anchors & cables, mooring ropes & wires, & more
particularly their securing gear such as locking bars, chain & rope stoppers.
The efficient maintenance & upkeep in a constant state of readiness of all LSA & FFA.
The provision of safe moorings & gangways when alongside, moored or at anchor.
Gangway safety nets & any appliances or equipment that are required by the custom of the port or by law for the safe &
efficient working of the vessel.
Safe & efficient cargo planning, leading to the compiling of accurate cargo plans & conditions. Draft & trim, transverse
stability conditions & stresses within acceptable limits.
Under Master's instruction shall be responsible for making the holds, & all other parts of the ship where goods are
carried, fit & safe for their reception, carriage & preservation. He shall properly & carefully load, handle, stow, carry,
keep, care for & discharge the goods.
Meet with, co-operate with & assist Company representatives in all aspects of ship operations.
To ensure that all Officers & Crew extend every courtesy to Shippers & consignees.
The upkeep of an efficient records system of all cargo carried on a voyage basis in chronological sequence.
For the clear and concise upkeep & compiling of all log books & records that are required in the day to day running of
the Deck Department. This includes the stores register & Indenting for stores.
Deck stores & spares are to be properly stowed & easily accessible.
Requisitions are to be properly and accurately made out giving full details and dimensions, material required, etc. At
the same time the balance of stocks on board should be correctly indicated & the total requisition endorsed by the
Master.
Plan & supervise the work to be done by the Deck Crew, bearing in mind at all times that cargo readiness, care &
securing takes precedence over ordinary deck work.
Daily inspection is to be made of all accessible cargo spaces, & the accommodation.
All windlasses, capstans & mooring winches are to be tested once a day before the first cargo operation.
All fire fighting appliance & fire detection system.
Be familiar with the proper use & operation of various appliances; for fire extinguishing & various kinds of fire alarms,
check them at prescribed interval & make perfect records accordingly in order to ensure their being efficacious at all
times.

On advice from the Master lay out the courses, having taken into consideration all local marine bulletins & Notices & Mariners
that concern the particular route.
Directly responsible to the Ch.Officer for the efficient management of operations & the ship's safety during the working period
assigned to his charge.
Before taking the deck, he is to ensure that operations are proceeding according to plan & that no doubt exists over the
working program.
All lifesaving appliances & life rafts; Manual fog signaling equipment.; Visual communication gear & equipment.
The keeping of complete records on the above.
Together with the Ch.Officer, he will take part in testing all navigation equipment, steering gear, bridge controls & telegraphs,
communications equipment, & Whistle prior to the vessel leaving a berth. Recording same & informing the Master accordingly.
Ensure a complete set of International Code of Signals flags are on board.
Under the supervision of the Ch.Officer will also be directly responsible for the management & requisition of ship's stores.
Like the Ch.Officer, he is to ensure, while on duty that the operations are proceeding according to plan & that no doubt, exists
over the working program.
To see that the cranes are correctly rigged & being worked in a safe manner.
Moorings & gangway are to be frequently checked, especially in ports with strong tides & high tidal range.
Assist Ch.Officer during Cargo operation
Take charge of life buoys, life jackets, life rafts including the apparatus & all other safety equipment onboard, & examine, clean
& maintain them at prescribed interval so as to keep them always in efficacy; & compile muster list allotting special duties to
each member in emergency (including fire).
Take charge of flags, signal lamps, apparatus for smoke/sound/light signals & attend to their examination & upkeep so as to
ensure their being usable at any time.
Attend the embarking and disembarking of pilot & also do any other work assigned by the Master.
To keep a record book complete with duties of checking of LSA, fire drills, & life raft drills.
In the absence of the Watch keeping Officer, the Chief Officer will carry out his duties.
