3. Analysis and Design

Anchor bolts are designed for the wind load moment and shear forces at the base plate level.

Wind load calculation : ( As per ASCE7-05, for exposure D)

basic wind speed V = 44.4 m/s ( max considered)

factors Kz = 1.16 upto 9.1 m (30') ht & exposure D .. Table 6-30.37

I = 0.87 importance factor , category I .. Table 6-1 8m

dynamic pressure q = 0.613 Kz.Kzt. V2.I N/m²


= 0.613 x 1.16 x 1.0 x 44.42 x 0.87
= 1219 N/m² = 1.22 kN/m²
wind load factor Cf= 1.2
0.82
wind load = Cf.q. projected area
section of pole varies from approximately 555 mm to 250 mm at top.
hence wind load varies from;
1.2x1.22x0.25 = 0.37 kN/m at top
1.2x1.22x0.555 = 0.82 kN/m at bottom

moment at base ,M = WL²/2 = (0.82+0.37)/2 x 8.0² /2 = 20 kNm


shear at base , H = WL = (0.82+0.37)/2 x 8.0 = 5 kN
