CONCRETE CURING PLAN

Curing of concrete will commence immediately after setting the concrete in position and will be
continued for a period not less than 14 days reckoned from the date of completion of concreting.

The top surfaces of slabs and other horizontal surfaces shall be cured by impounding water in cement
mortar bunds at all times till the curing period is over.

All other exposed concrete viz columns, side of beam etc. shall be covered with hessian or similar
material which shall be kept continuously wet during the specified curing period.

Newly placed concrete shall be protected from rain and during hot, dry or windy weather approved
coverings shall be used to prevent premature drying out. The concrete shall also be protected from
frost. All exposed faces of fourteen days after placing or for three days if rapid Hardening Portland
cement be used, except when there be danger of the curing water getting frozen.

Concrete placed in ground containing deleterious salts shall be kept free from contact with such
waters during placing and for a period of three days thereafter. The ground water around basements,
underground tanks, and similar constructions shall be kept down to an approved level by pumping, or
the works shall be flooded or other approved means taken to prevent floatation.

Slabs, stairs, and other work shall be protected damage from workmen, equipment, overload or any
other cause.

During the curing period horizontal surfaces shall be protected by one or more of the following or
other approved means.
i) Covering with Hessian, canvas sacks or similar absorbent materials kept constantly damp and
wholly covering the exposed concrete surface.
ii) Covering with impermeable materials raised approximately 50mm over the surface so as to
prevent loss of moisture.
iii) Flooding with potable water free from sediments.
For concrete surfaces not in contact with forms, one of the following procedures shall be applied
immediately after completion of placement and finishing.
a) Ponding or continuous sprinkling.
b) Application of absorptive mats or fabric kept continuously wet.
c) Application of other moisture retaining covering as approved by consultants.

Curing will be done with clean water so as not to discolour the concrete. All exposed concrete work
shall be properly protected by gunny bags, wooden boards etc., so that the surfaces and edges are not
damaged, disfigured or discoloured.
