Song Teaching Lesson Plan

This 3rd grade general music lesson plan aims to teach students the song "You Are My Sunshine" over 5 minutes. LEARNING STRATEGIES/INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

Song Teaching Method Rote

Procedures 1. State the learning objective.


2. Use piano or keyboard instrument to establish the first notes.
3. Perform the whole song while student listens.
4. Begin teaching one phrase at a time by having the student
echo what I sing.
5. Tell them we will be using our fingers to count through the
phrases.
6. Sing phrase 1, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.”
7. Have the student repeat this phrase with you.
8. Sing phrase 2, “You make me happy, when skies are grey.”
9. Have the student repeat this phrase with you.
10. Sing phrases 1 and 2 together for the student.
11. Have the student repeat these phrases with you.
12. Sing phrase 3, “You’ll never know dear, how much I love
you.”
13. Have the student repeat this phrase with you.
14. Sing phrase 4, “Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
15. Have the student repeat this phrase with you.
16. Sing phrases 3 and 4 together for the student.
17. Have the student repeat these phrases with you.
18. Sing the whole song for the student.
19. Have the student repeat the whole song with you.
20. Congratulate them!

Closure If the student performed the song with you and remembered the melody
and lyrics, then they achieved the learning objective. Take any questions
they may have.
